EADD Movie Recommendations Thread v.4...not for TV series and stuff Dan...

Went through the the forthcoming films for the next fortnight on film 4 last night, and set my recorder to record about 20 films. There is a lot of good stuff coming up. Some of them may be rubbish, i can usually tell within ten minutes or so if a film has grabbed my interest or not and whether its gonna be worth bothering with. Nothing lost if some of them turn out to be shit, ive just lost ten minutes, and can delete it. Im gonna need a lot of TV as im gonna be reducing/quitting bupe again, and dont expect to have the energy to do much other than watch TV whilst i recover.

Cities are weird places though, they are quite unnatural environments for human beings, everyone essentially walks around wrapped up in their own little bubble as there would be sensory overload if you tried to take in everything that is going on. Bodies in the road/pavement though should prompt some form of action though, and it is a more than sad state of affairs if everyone just turns a blind eye to such things. That person is somebodys son/daughter/brother/sister/friend/relative etc.

Spot on

You need to understand that particular Chinese incident within the right culural context. In China, a culture of litigation has emerged rapidly and fiercely, and it's created all kinds of perverse incentives, because those who respond often find themselves blamed for the incident. In fact, I think that in the case you mention, MDB, the woman who eventually intervened to try to help was ultimately evicted by her landlord, who was angry at the disruption caused by the publicity. I even recall a story about a driver reversing over someone he'd just hit in an attempt to kill them, as by doing so they could hope to avoid the ruinous legal action a surviving victim might bring. None of this makes it any less tragic, of course, but it helps to understand what initially seem as unthinkably evil behaviours.

Papillion, only seen it once before and that was many years ago, it is a bit dated in parts, but overall its still very watchable and has stood the test of time. The only thing is the ending was so memorable, or the thing that happened just before the ending was so memorable, that i knew what was going to happen all along. I still found it very enjoyable, motivational, and inspiring though.

I know it has FA to do with opi w/ds but watching what and how McQueen endured in his first 2 years in solitary and then Hoffman saying "a temptation resisted is the true measure of character" Im going to burn that segment to dvd and keep watching it whenever my motivation to quit bupe flags. It will help me keep things in perspective, what luxury do i have, plenty of decent food, warmth, comfort, tv, music, films, it will also help me to be stronger physically and mentally, be tougher physically and mentally , resist, endure.

Sightseers.

The follow up to kill list.

A crazy plotline, cant really say anything without giving it all away, its doing the rounds on Film4, it'll probably be repeated several times knowing them. Its well worth watching, an extremely British / English and eccentric film.

potential spoiler

I just have to say I felt really sorry for that lovely stoner guy who invented some crazy pod thing to tow around on his bike. The guy reminded me of Mugz, and i mean that in the nicest possible way.

Yeah, its the next film the director made after Kill List. The story doesnt have anything to do with it, sorry if that was misleading.

Inevitably when it was released it was discussed as 'the follow up to kill list/ how do you follow up kill list.' I suppose it was like saying E.T. was the follow up to Jaws or something, but as this director goes on to make more films i think he'll have a very unique style,

sighteers spolier

a little bit like Mike Leigh in the kind of 'british kitchen sink drama thing' but with lots more violence and murders.

Ah right. I'd never heard it called that, and I didn't know it was the same director. I quite liked Sightseers, it is pretty fucking weird right enough so not a massive surprise it was done by the same person who made Kill List.

I liked the ginger haired guy, and agreed with the reasons why he hated or liked the people he did. Allthough obviously the actions he took were just a little bit extreme.

I also watched Paul recently on film4 the other night, that film by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost meeting the alien. A pretty funny and mad action / comedy caper. Been pretty lucky all the films i would have got off Lovefilm are coming up on film4 right now, i just had to wait a bit longer before getting to see them.

Rush - awesome film, about a rivelry between 2 f1 drivers taking place in the 70s, basted on real events.

also seen amazing spiderman (the spiderman reboot) which was meh...

Well, I'm not sure Ali's being nitpicky about 'wording'... if it's a totally unrelated movie. He's giving yer key infoz, y0 <3

i can be nitpicky with the best of them but, in this case, that's exactly what i meant.

mydrugbuddy, if you saw a post saying "i saw this awesome sequel to the matrix. it's called finding nemo", you'd surely question my use of the word sequel, wouldn't you? the movie you saw was not a different version of rush. it was a completely different movie. i just pointed that out (to both you as the op and to anybody else reading).

Jam packed full of recommendations of good films out this year. Yes its that Mark Kermode guy, but fortunately its not about his taste, which i find too high brow and pretentious, but its a mixture of whats been popular and whats been critically acclaimed this year. There must be some good ones here.

Im going to watch this program again with pencil and paper and make a note of every film Id posssibly like, i dont think ive seen one of the films that was mentioned. Thats not surprising as ive only been to the cinema once this year and havent rented any DVDs either.

watched Trance the other night (Danny Boyle movie).
it was an interesting one for sure, but i think it tried a bit too hard to show how smart it can be... felt a bit contrieved at the end.
good solid cast and a scene with Rosario Dawsons bald snatch / Vincent Cassel s naked bottom for the ladies.
