^ You got to do some exploring whilst you're away. Just keep the John Thomas in your pants, and try not to share needles.;)

^ mine's a pint please, you saucy buxom serving wench. ;)

You're not going to be shagging any locals while you work on the rig so it's no problem.

It will only possibly be an issue if you go exploring on your 4 weeks off. Do you think you will?
it'll mostly be based onshore, with trips offshore now and again.

i will have huge scope for travelling on my time off, aye. i haven't really thought too much about it, i've never even been to africa before. so ducky - have you actually been to angola or libya? i spoke to a mate that works in angola and he doesn't reckon it's too dodgy nowadays... and libya looks fucking amazing. i have gained this knowledge from a recent article in 'Bike' magazine. %) the guy flew from heathrow to tripoli and hired a bike when he got there. it's a cool looking place, not at all like a desert wasteland as it's usually portrayed.

Finished my summer contract job and am now an unemployed arts graduate.

Been half offered a job with with the language school which I have worked for over the past few summers. I would be in charge of business development/sales/marketing or however you name it. Basically being the one responsible for getting business to the school, thinking up my own marketing/sales strategies and arranging trips around the world to meet agents to drum up business. Need to put forward a proposal of just how I would go about this to him on Tuesday.

As I live in Oxford and am a recent graduate I have full access to the oxford University Careers Center so am going to spend the afternoon there and try find myself a career.

Sounds excellent Felix. It's well exciting you lucky cunt. What a great opportunity. Africa looks cool and I agree that Tripoli looks wicked whether you can drink booze or not. I bet the money's good as well. :D

Experimental that sounds like a decent job especially the trips round the world bit. Lucky bastard! You should definitely go for that. Good luck with the proposal. Do you have any ideas yet?

Been putting a few ideas together, nothing too indepth will come up with something solid tomorrow. But so far my main aim would be to analyze the breakdown of nationalities and the performance of our agents over the past 10 years or so and use that data come up with my strategy.

such as ie. targeting agents that previously sent us many students but have recently been poor, phoning them up and start building new relationships with them.

Basically this job sounds like a shit load of responsibility. It would be on my head to make sure the school reaches its target of £600,000 worth of sales during a financially buggered year. There will not be any bonuses or commission and the pay is going to be crap but personal development wise it would be very good.

Got offered a job yesterday being a human resources assistant, pay would be better than the sales role. HR has been an area I have been interested in and believe I would be good at. Depending on how Tuesday goes if I get it or if I want the sales job I do have a fall back option.

Finishing uni is fucking stressful as are life choices!

A lot of responsibility but if you get to travel the world in return it sounds really good and exciting to me.

HR vs working for a travel school with travel opportunities. You know which one you should go for. ;)

I've finished uni too, about to start looking for a job. I agree on the life choices being stressful, I can't decide what I want to do. Volunteer abroad or get a paying job in Edinburgh. Decisions decisions. :\

aye, fuck becoming a soulless HR-droid. they're all two-faced lying backstabbing cunts, the lot of them. ;)

and don't ever go into that thinking you would be helping employees or anything. that's fuck all to do with it. all HR people do is protect the employer from lawsuits and industrial action, and ensure the bare minimum of legislative requirements are met.

NOTHING ELSE.

and even though they act like they're it, the fact is they don't even have any power. it's the operational management that make all the decisions. HR people attend interviews purely to keep an eye on the managers, ensuring they do things by the book.

obviously, there are exceptions to this. :D

i was sexually molested by an HR person when i was a baby.

the other job sounds infinitely better. worry about your salary when you've got a mortgage and a car loan and a visa bill!

Aye money isn't everything. Having what sounds like a decent job with benefits for less money is much more appealing to me than a high paying job that involves me being bored out my skull forever.

Take the language school job. ;)

I think I'd like a job in the travel industry just not sure doing what. Suggestions?

No thank Carisck. I'd hate that job, being surrounded by lairy British folk all day who's life mission it is to 'get pissed and pull birds'. Sounds like hell.

And experimental I'd never do a sales job. No way.

Indeed.

Nah I'd hate to be a club rep or work in a holiday resort. When I was younger I used to think it was great, would watch programs like Ibize / Tenerife / Greece Uncovered and Club Reps and think it looked amazing. Not my cuppa anymore.

Congrats felix :)

You're in the one industry that probably isn't totally fucking doomed right now. Really glad I've got a permanent job, though I haven't signed the contract yet. Better do that while there are still some people working in the City, huh? (I love walking out of work and seeing the Standard 'another 5000 jobs gone, suckers!').

Oh, and I wouldn't work for anyone who couldn't spell, either.

^ very true. :|

well done to you too!

which industry do you mean? the military-industrial complex, or the 'let's screw africa out of as much money as possible' one? ;)

so to defend myself (and the entire western oil industry ;)) against duck_raper's statement, i've actually found out a bit more on this subject, and it's as i suspected. while i know damn well it's not done for altruistic reasons, the facts are: the western companies are going in there to provide the much-needed technical know-how and experience required for the construction, engineering and logistics projects to help get these countries' oil industries off the ground. my own projects will involve visiting each onshore base and rig (onshore & offshore) and basically teaching them how to run their logistics & materials operations, and then leaving the 'natives' to it. the people working there are, in the majority, local.

and the decision to export oil is up to the country in question. the profits don't all get funnelled into the west; they would mostly go to the country's treasury. what the country does with that is up to them. i don't think the three countries i'm going to first have the worst record in that respect, but i'll do some more reading. (not that it'll put me off going, i've got fucking bills to pay here. :p)

i do know that Libya have the cheapest petrol prices in the world (something ridiculous like 7p a litre) and i think everyone in the country gets free electricity.

oh - by the way - i still haven't accepted this job. got some negotiation to do first. :|

You don't have to defend your decision to take the job mate, you have bills to pay that's all that matters (you heartless bastard). ;)

Seriously though it's the way of the world and there's not much you can do about it. :)
