Congrats felix
You're in the one industry that probably isn't totally fucking doomed right now. Really glad I've got a permanent job, though I haven't signed the contract yet.
Oh, and I wouldn't work for anyone who couldn't spell, either.
well done to you too!
which industry do you mean? the military-industrial complex, or the 'let's screw africa out of as much money as possible' one?
so to defend myself (and the entire western oil industry

) against duck_raper's statement, i've actually found out a bit more on this subject, and it's as i suspected. while i know damn well it's not done for altruistic reasons, the facts are: the western companies are going in there to provide the much-needed technical know-how and experience required for the construction, engineering and logistics projects to help get these countries' oil industries off the ground. my own projects will involve visiting each onshore base and rig (onshore & offshore) and basically teaching them how to run their logistics & materials operations, and then leaving the 'natives' to it. the people working there are, in the majority, local.
and the decision to export oil is up to the country in question. the profits don't
all get funnelled into the west; they would mostly go to the country's treasury. what the country does with that is up to them. i don't think the three countries i'm going to first have the worst record in that respect, but i'll do some more reading. (not that it'll put me off going, i've got fucking bills to pay here.

)
i do know that Libya have the cheapest petrol prices in the world (something ridiculous like 7p a litre) and i think everyone in the country gets free electricity.
oh - by the way - i still haven't accepted this job. got some negotiation to do first.
