Most people prefer to keep that moderately quiet. I certainly do.

I've never understood the stigma over telling one's pay..

^ 'shrugs' workplaces are certainly nicer places if people aren't trying to figure out why the guy next to them earns 10% more for the same job.

Workplaces are usually less equitable if people are reluctant to be open about their pay. The more people talk about it, the less likely the employer is to get away with keeping a silent disparity between wages.

Probably a fair point. I've not really given it much thought.
To be honest, apart from supermarket type jobs, I've never been in a situation where I was actually doing the same job as anybody else. Everybody was known to have different skills, tasks were different, start times were different and ages were reasonably varied.

I don't know how much salaries varied, but when I joined one company, they'd literally just been bought by Emap, so the potential for raises went from non-existent to very likely overnight.

What's the job?

It's bar/waiter/stockman/dogsbody at a sports stadium in London. There was a big event all last week. Today is my first day off in an age.

I don't want to name the venue here like.

Ok, I've officially been unemployed too long. I'm seriously considering applying for housing benefit.

Be careful applying for Housing Benefit if you are staying with someone. It can effect their mortgage, any money they are claiming or earnings they have. They will also have to declare your rent as earnings for tax reasons.

The intention is to get a place elsewhere. Where I am now can only be considered temporary.

Is looking at notes during an interview a no no or acceptable?

Depends what your notes are on.
I usually take some notes on questions I intend to ask.

Yeah I was going to do that and then note down the answers but I was also going to take notes of what I wanted to say when they ask me the gay shit like "Tell me about a time when you've blah blah blah..."

Would that be ok or just look like I've made it up.

If I was the interviewer, it would probably go against you, and yes, I have interviewed people for jobs in the past.
