re. the Saipem 7000: I love that sort of stuff. It makes you want to just miniturize it and then re-assemble it all :D
that just reminded me. when i was a young boy, for many years i had a vague notion that i wanted to 'build oil rigs'. i think i saw a model of one at a careers exhibition when i was 13. so i followed that education path and went to Uni to be a mechanical engineer. that didn't work out cos i wasn't too hot at maths (you'd think failing my Higher maths first time would have flagged that up to the so-called Careers Officer, but never mind.) so i dropped out and went back to the supermarket i previously worked at after school, and got a job as a storeman. from there i got a storeman's job at an oil company, and worked my way up. and now (well, for the past four years in fact) i've been part of huge teams of people doing precisely that - building oil rigs. i can't believe i've only just realised that. :D

so the moral of the story is... something like ummm... don't give up hope, sometimes you can achieve your goals by unconventional means. omg that's fucking lame. :|

enough about me.

I got a job! =D

I start on Monday!

Whoohooo I have justification to go for some pints tonight and watch my dad play a gig in a certain local!
excellent stuff, well done! :D

isn't it amazing what a little Job Club thread can do? ;)

can you tell us where it is? (e.g. newcastle/riverside?) how is this affecting your househunting? :)

tell us a bit about the job then. :)

what will you fail the drugs test on, if you're so sure? if it's just for smoking weed and you'll definitely fail, there's no point taking it unless you tell them upfront. otherwise you'll just annoy them for wasting their time and they'll never take you on. at least if you admit it in advance and tell them it's something you gave up recently, they might give you a chance?

it's highly unlikely you'll get tested on saturday by the way, you realise that eh? they'll only put successful applicants through for testing, obviously, so that should buy you a few days. if you're an occasional smoker, STOP NOW if you haven't already.

That made me smile. :)

you'll come crawling back here when you finally feel like being a productive, tax-paying member of society. well, when i say 'feel like', i mean you'll have bills to pay and you'll just fucking have to.

and no doubt you'll make your own woe is me thread about it too. i look forward to merging it here with a biting comment about using the fucking search engine. %)

oh no, wait a minute - you're just going to walk into your dream job organising T in the Parks etc. , aren't you? or will it be the 99p Saver Special Events at your local McDonalds, handing out flyers? :D

I have bills to pay now. Getting threatend with legal action from Scottish power due to unpaid bills as well as having bills coming through from our new supplier Scottish Hydro. Not to mention the net and TVs about to get cut off cuz we haven't paid that either.

DONT TALK TO ME ABOUT BILLS SUNSHINE. ;)

When I get that dream job at Maccy Dee's I can hook you up with a superviser position mate. I know you don't need it now but it's only a matter of time before you fail a drugs test again surely? :D

Deathrow can have a job too, he'll be your manager. :p

In all seriousness Spade, after you get back from this all expenses paid fanny-about-the-world trip...what are you going to do?

Where are you going to apply? What sort of job are you hoping to get (Specifically).

I mean, is there really a big demand for Events Organisers in Scotland? I suppose you could tie the signs to the lamposts every year for the festival but what else?

I don't know what I'm going to do DR, hoping I'll figure that out over the summer. Got plenty of time. :)

The events industry is massive and growing all the time so there are plenty of jobs out there in all sorts of different things from music events, festivals, sports, organising confrences, party planning and even organising weddings. Everything is an event if you think about it.

I don't know which route I want to go yet. Might even get into the marketing side of events as I've got my Marketing HND as well.

Maybe when I'm travelling I'll have an epiphany and decide I don't even want to go down the events or marketing route and find something completely different I'm interested in.

Might even just bum about a bit in Europe fruit picking or other little jobs for a while just for something different if I've no idea what I want to do back home. Be a good laugh. :)

Anymore questions? :p

The fruit picking wouldn't be a full time career choice. It's just something to do for a month or so to sustain the time out in Europe. :)
