That's a good point knock. I was listening to an awful eyewitness account earlier, and there was so much sadness in the guys voice, while he was explaining what he saw. He was really concise in describing the injuries and panic he witnessed, but at the same time, I was thinking about how many people in other countries have seen the same, and experience terrorism first hand on a regular basis.

Nothing justifies killing, in any circumstance. People seem far less concerned with what is going on in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria though. It's nuts. Is it considered 'old news', because it's been going on so long? It's like an event is reported on the front page, then something else happens, and it creeps to towards the back, and people forget, or just turn the page as it's nothing new.

In addition to the distance, American media deliberately omit the vast majority of deaths caused by the neverending war. They've even enacted new laws to prevent journalists and reporters from accessing information about the body count of both US soldiers and foreign victims. Most Americans have no idea of the how destructive and deadly the war really is. News in the rest of the world paints a completely different picture.

I'd also say the old 'one death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic' (Stalin, I believe?) concept applies.

Yes Toucan I am trying to slice the first piece, is the exhaust ok to start on?

Hmmm....I have my a new razor, I'm going to bed before I buy more things.

Love you all goodnight.

Nighty! Wish I could head to snoozeville soon, another long one I think!

They should make a film about terrorists trying to a bomb marathon.

It's probably already in production.

Ta-da!

Not sure if the 3 second attention span is entirely new or if it's been speeded up by modern society but...yeah. There you have it Urbain. The manufacture of news.

This is what you think
This is what you think
This is what you think
Now here's Tom with that poll of YOUR views

SHM is right it is media manipulation, the thing is that it affects all sectors of society, even our fine community here.

Example, after those 3 marathon runners were killed in the bombing we had multiple posts about it here in Gibberings thread, now there is absolutely nothing wrong about respecting the dead or commenting about international news, but on that same day over 30 people were killed in a bombing in Irak, they got no mention. Yesterday over 80 people died in a earthquake in Iran, no mention either.

The media engineers us to care more about what we deem our side, our allies, our people, with us being the Western world in general. 3 people die i the US and most European newspapers have it on their first page and have in detail analysis of what happened, the same happens in Pakistan, hardly a mention. I personally find it sickening how human life is not considered equal, but that's just the way it is I guess.

Hi Max, how you doing fella?
Hows the abcess, getting better?
I found out it's a blocked salivary gland. I have to rinse my mouth out 4x daily with warm salt water to try and help clear the blockage and if it's not got better in 2 weeks then got to go back to dentist to see what they can do.
Not as painful as it was so it seems to be getting a bit better.
Old age slowly starting to kick in I reckon.

I saw something the other day saying about how we don't seem to care if it's "brown people being shot or blown up but as soon as it's happening to white people it's headline, front page news".
Which is true I guess but we don't normally think about it.

Why do they always turn up later than they usually do when you not expecting anything?
Still waiting, he hopefully will show up soon.

Yeah but I wasn't exposed to those bombings on here Kenny. I was exposed to the bombing in Boston on here. I don't watch the news if I can possibly help it. Like you say just used to manipulate how we think. Why didn't you post about the other bombings around the world if you believe we should be exposed to them?

Easy now folks! :)~<3

Had a bit of a shite few days lately, but I've got some meds and cider in me while there's BANG BANG TWANG! going on from the gas people, and my brother's gone on a fucking anger wobbly due to him having to clear shit out of his room - I don't blame him, it was proper last second that they told him, but he's been screaming F-ing n Jeffin at the top of his lungs and has bust up his new door somehow (not left this spot since he was doing so).

I hate having builders and plumbers and electricians around every day (but most of them are really sound blocks though to be fair). We've no gas, no hot water, no heating and no kitchen.
Nothing except cold water and random appliances all over the shop :|

Anyhoo - Nuff whinging.
Just can't wait till it's all over and I'm not coughing up dust et. al. 8(

Hope yer all doing alright! Much love <3

absolutely, this sort of violence is happening on a regular basis in countries the west has destabilised and the media here largely ignores it.

Theres no outpouring of sympathy or anger for the 3,000+ innocent people who've been killed by american drones in the middle east either.

Or the 11 children that were killed in a NATO airstrike in afghanistan last week.

If you do keep track of what's going on in the world, I think you can become a bit resigned to this sort of thing, and not to belittle what happend in boston, in the wider context though it is really insignificant and the media fawning and panic and speculation on rolling news etc just winds me up.

Hold on, I'm pretty sure at least one of our members KNOWS PEOPLE in Boston and that's why they were posting about it :)

Walking a fine line, will I fall off...

To be fair, if you want to cover something up, just do it far away.

More bombs were dropped on Laos, a country roughly the size of the UK, by the US, even though there was no official war with Laos, than were dropped by both sides in the whole of the second world war.

There's also Cambodia that acted as a spillover during the Vietnam War. There's still thousands of mines and unexploded bombs there and they're still, to this day, trying to find them and safely detonate them but innocent people still get killed / dismembered by them :(

Oh ok cool mate as long as you are not in any more pain then that's a good thing. Older age, yeah my knee clicks every time I stand up. Some time it really clicks a fair bit and hurts a bit. If I squat down and stay down a while I suddenly realise it's going to happen and hurt. It does. Damn old age.

Oh man that sounds bad about your Brother. Sorry too hear that. Hard to watch folk you love being in a shitty mood. Hope he gets happy soon. <3

Yeah it's Pagey. Would like to see her post about if she has heard from them and if they are ok. Hope they are. <3
