I cooked a chili con carne with Quorn once, surprisingly it tasted very good, but then I'm a master at cooking chili. It's not too bad as a product, although good quality mince beef is miles apart.

I'm deffo a carnivore but I remember going to Strawberry Fair in Cambridge one year and really fancied a burger.
The meat burger van had the longest queue so went and bought a veggie burger instead and I thought it was actually really nice and was pleasantly surprised.
But you still can't beat the smell of meat cooking.

Well they may do that Ceres but for me I'd rather eat it than pay someone to pilot that chicken harvester you posted in the images thread a while back.

I adore mushrooms though. Been eating so many lately. Been having big ones in a Yorkshire pudding. Gorgeous.

Totally agree Max, the smell of meat is very intoxicating. I would bet that the smell of smokey bacon cooking is the number one reason vegetarians go back to eating meat.

Speaking of soyachunks, within a few minutes I am going to make a soba noodle soup: Dashi stock, soba noodles, couple small slices of chicken, few slices of (firm) tofu, and spring onion. Bonito (shaved tuna flakes) on top.


I rarely eat tofu or other soya-based proteins (Quorn, Valess or Tempeh) on their own, but I often use them to add to meat dishes (= good for variety, for my money and maybe also for animals worldwide)

Tofu is wicked cheap, not the Valess/Quorn elaborate meat-substitutes (those are often more pricey than real meat over here), but the plain chunks of firm or silken tofu; tempeh is also very common and affordable, it's less bland than tofu but quite versatile still.

Yeah I may try and visit my Saudi friend this weekend maybe but no I don't think my mate will be wanting to indulge again. He said he is glad that he experienced it but it just isn't for him,which is fair enough I guess.
I intend getting some more soon as it's a nice option to have sitting in the house for those days when I've got no cash whatsoever and am bored to death.
Nice knowing that I could just dip into a bag and have a fun afternoon instead of just watching TV all day.

It's JUICE, actual juice, Tropicana to be exact. One of their "fusions" or whatever they call it. It's very morish. I think I'll have more!

edit: they call it an "orange creation" which is a bit ridiculous. There's always a deal on them, 2 for £3 or something at Asda, three for price of two at Tesco. That reminds of the Adam and Joe routine where they go about the shop eating and drinking all the "extra free"
