EADD Film Recommendations v5 - TBC

I see they had Excalibur on again this week so i have recorded it for my next trip...The first time i saw it i was tripping and it has been my fav for years.

Watched Black Mass last night. Very good movie, some of Johnny Depp's best work yet. Up there with Blow in terms of gangster movies. :)

@alasdairm yea Ted 2 was actually a bit meh compared to the first one. Worth a watch but the jigs never as fun the second time around I guess.

Its good mate. I agree hateful eight wasn't tarentino's best was ok 7/10. The revenant was the pic of the bunch recently but Black Mass gives it a run for its money both really good, the Whitley Bulger guy Depp is playing was an interesting character and complete psychopath but its made a great movie :D

EDIT just watched Joy, terrible movie, avoid. And Lionel Messi the Greatest Ever, which was interesting and a very good documentary.

Well, I've just seen Creed & I have to say I really enjoyed it.

The story was very familiar, but that I thought that was a good thing. A few nods to scenes from early instalments of the Rocky franchise too. After seeing the film I can fully understand why Sylvester Stallone won a Golden Globe for best supporting actor & has been nominated for the same Oscar too. I was really quite surprised by the performance he put in. I could certainly feel the emotions welling up at certain points in the film.

I really think Creed has reinvigorated the franchise in a way that Rocky Balboa didn't quite manage. In some ways, it'd be nice to end on a high but obviously it left the doors open for a sequel, which of course is already in the works. I just hope they don't try to drag this out until Sylvester Stallone drops dead. Creed V? No thank you.

Thanks for sharing your views on this, Chatty. Think I'd love tomwatvh this. I lovef all the Rocky films n have the box set. I found Rocky Belboa my least favourite. It was unnatural n a waste of Stallone's tallent nit was an OK film, don't get me wrong but mo where mear then others. I didn't like the idea of Rocky fighting im his okd age especially as he had all the issues nefore from MR Tea, Ivan Drago (Russian) n Tommy Gun. I was also annoyed that they had cut Adrian's character out hacvinh passed on. I was disappointment with that. I'd have like to see them together.
Yea I am look forward to watching Creed. It sounds fresh n exciting.

Bridge of Spies. Best I've seen in a while, not a fan of many Tom Hanks movies but really was gripping, 9/10

^ i was disappointed but i didn't know much about it and assumed it would be a cloak and dagger, tinker, tailor-type spy tale. i imagine i'll watch it again sometime and my opinion may change.

Anal Vixens 3 has the most compelling story line.

But srs: Interstellar is pretty sweet. I felt like they tacked the bullshit last act on just to make its audience a tiny bit wider though, 2 hours of physics nerd space awesomeness does not need 7 minutes of metaphysical imaginary friend shite.

I prefer "A small sticky situation 2" its midget bukkake porn at its finest.

"A Fantastic Fear of Everything"

Simon Pegg did a great job of acting just like me.

Not a bang up to date cinema new release, but I finally got round to watching the second half of A Serbian Film the other night. I dunno why exactly, but perhaps it had shocked and prepared me enough with the first attempted viewing (the download i had at the time was only half the film:!) but fortunately the whole film is available in HD on You Tube, but I didn't feel up to watching it at the time. But I kind of knew what to expect for the remainder of the film, I thought that I might find it just too disturbing, maybe it was the Ian Watkins stuff being very fresh at the time I watched the first bit, but at that time it was one of the very few films that I've considered verging on being too disturbing to watch.

In the end I watched the climax in the spirit of the Hostel films, although the subject matter is a great deal darker; snuff movies, paedophilia, new born-porn as "high art" in the character who plays the director of the film within the film, if that makes sense. Just to clarify and to un-incriminate myself it is not a paedo/ new-born/ snuff 'porn' film, but those things are the directors obsession, and the film is about the effects of those ultimate taboos on the people involved, rather than them being exploited directly for the sickos who get off on that sort of stuff. I watched Mark Kermode's review of the movie on You Tube before watching the 2nd half on You Tube, hoping that it would help provide some context and perspective, which it did. :\

^Sounds a bit too high on the grim-ometer for me.

This could be in the TV thread, but i noticed they're showing Screamers on the Horror channel (freeview) on friday at 10.50. It's a bit action-y (with peter weller in it), but it's based on a Phillip K Dick short story (second variety) and is pretty decent.

Watched the Martian - it was alright and i was engaged to the end (apart from me reflexively saying 'Mat Damon' in the team america voice every 30 seconds), but it was all a bit gung ho and heroic for my tastes.

Just watching "The Big Short" with family just now. Heard it's got better reviews than Wolf of Wall Steet, pretty big name cast I've high hopes for this one.

^ Very good and informative movie 8/10 would recommend.

Got some easier viewing for the weekend of Dirty Grandpa and Ride Along 2 lol :)

Beast Of No Nations is a pretty deep movie, plus Idris Elba is one of the main characters which automatically adds 10 cool points

I found the movie boring and very drawn out.

Few I have watched recently that I can recommend

Infinitely Polar Bear - A manic-depressive mess of a father tries to win back his wife by attempting to take full responsibility of their two young, spirited daughters, who don't make the overwhelming task any easier

Room - After five-year-old Jack and his mother escape from the enclosed surroundings that Jack has known his entire life, the boy makes a thrilling discovery.
