I have no idea what's going on. Why is it moving so fast? This is how I felt watching OldBoy. Do I need another sleep before I can join the film club?

I was in much the same position last night. EADDer decision-making has that "waiting for a bus" thing going on: we sit around for hours twiddling our todgers then all of a sudden we're several pages in and sat next to a nutter :D

In related news, the posts I made urging folk to "De eeeet!" in t'other film thread were made to prod folk into action before receiving/reading Marmz' PM about how she'd envisioned this 'ere club thingy working out in terms of practicalities. I actually didn't notice Mr SB had stepped up to the plate in the meantime and got meself into a bit of a state of konfused kerfufflement. But hey-ho. I'm sure it'll all work itself out one way or another. May've been optimistic in forseeing the possibility of us EADDers getting to the brewery pissup planning level in any of our lifetimes though :D

Am in agreement with PTCH and Marmz' - at least someone with some organisational oomphs and abilities just cracked on and started something to get us going. Also means we can point the finger and J'Accuse at him if it all descends into a morass of confusion and bitching 'bout poor design =D:p;)

To get down to biznizz, have only seen one of the nomz before I think (Heart of a Dog - which is a damn fine film) and there's a couple nommed I've been meaning to watch ferra while now so still pondering. Might have to watch and delete one or two of the flurry of French films purchased yesterday to make room for further purchases though cos I got somewhat purchase-happy and me HD is fuckin' rammed at the moment. Maybe Amazon will give us a grant to buy us all large external storage devices for all the extra biznizz we're putting there way ;)

it get's you one of these!

And that pic sums up in a saggy, hairy nutsack nutshell precisely why I shave me undercarriage. Put yerself in the place of your significant other, fellas - would you want owt looking like that within ten feet of you? :D

I beg to differ, Knock. You'd be surprised. I'd almost be tempted to nuzzle at a freshly-shaven ballbag meself. Well, "almost" may be too strong a word but if it was required to do so for some reason I'd be opting for silkysmooth rather gagging on stale-sweat and spunk encrusted pubes I can assure you ;)

Back on topic, there seems to be a strong frontrunner already. May get my vote too on the grounds that I have a hard copy of it so ne need to cram a new purchase onto me HD.

I sense a new thread coming on.

PS You're allowed to shower even if you don't shave!

Media players is at least tangentially related (nay, essential really) to the subject at hand so am just gonna chip in on Watson's VLC recommendation... I've always used VLC cos it's great but for an unknown reason it just died on me a coupla months back and I can't get it working at all now (even after downloading and resinstalling again). Was gutted cos few - if any - media players are so versatile. Then I stumbled across Kantaris and have never looked back. It apparently uses VLC as the base and then added a few shiny bells 'n' whistles on top. I think I actually prefer it to VLC now so am recommending it as an alternative for anyone who may also have problems with VLC (or just doesn't get along with it or whatever). Tis a bloody good media player and no mistake. (Unless it's actually some horribly shonky bit of stealth shitebag software that is - am not savvy enough to have a clue 'bout such matters)

Kantaris is open source and legit, no need to worry and since it is just VLC shiny edition it does everything VLC does (and a bit more). I quite like it but i'm sticking with vanilla vlc for now.

one thing that does my head in about VLC is the audio bar going to 200% for volume? that's not how percentages work VLC :X, have they sorted that out in kantaris?

reminds me a bit of this

I think VLC actually boosts the sound above 100% ("line level") so it's entirely valid you failed pedant you. 100% = 1 x original.

One of my proper amplifiers shows volume as attenuation, maximum is -0.0 dB. It gets quieter as you go further below zero.

The reason it does that is that 100% is basically full volume, then it boosts the audio (pre-amp? unsure about that, something along those lines) if you go above that.

Edit - Beaten by knock :(

fuck 200% i'm going to edit the code & recompile it to 100%. in version 1.x of VLC the sound went to 400%, so they are moving in the right direction

Volume bar in Kantaris doesn't mention percentages at all that I've noticed actually, Watson. I think that at one stage when I was fiddling with the settings I ended up with two seperate volume bars which operated somewhat independently of each other though. Going by Knock and PTCH I'd surmise that maybe one was the "proper" volume (up to 100% ) and the other was the "pre-amp/boosty thingy" one (an... extra 100% ). Certainly does seem to play audio a lot louder than the other media players I sometimes use (J. River Media Jukebox, for example, that I use for all my audio file needs (cos it reminds me of the one I always liked best that used to come as standard in Ubuntu)) anyway.

And thanks for soothing that small voice of concern that whispers to me in the dead of night that I'd installed some horrid piece of shitware disguised as a notably finely-crafted free media player. Glad to hear it's one of the good guys cos it really is a nice bit of kit. As you said, VLC prettied-up with extra nobs on. And who doesn't appreciate a prettied-up nob or two?

I'm going to go bleak obscure classic and suggest Naked.

Cos it's a really good film. Haven't seen Secrets In Their Eyes.

The bit when Johnny explains the evolution of the universe to Louise always makes me smile. Classic line. %)
