Just to play devils advocate for a second.

Whats the difference between self harm and certain body modification practices, certain body modifications are self mutilation.

Just throwing it out there.

Self harm is done for very different reasons to body modification.
Plus, in the words of Steve Haworth ''its not self harm if someone else is doing it to me''

Ive just took some pictures of my piercings, since I havent got any new ones of my eyebrows that I had redone (I say redone, they just needed tapering open again) or of my 30mm lobes/10mm pinna.

Left Eyebrow

Right Eyebrow and bridge.

Side Labrets and 4mm Septum

Left ear, 30mm lobes, 10mm pinna, 1.6mm tragus. 1.6mm lobe

Right ear - 30mm lobes, 1.6mm conch (Ive got a 1.6mm lobe piercing here aswell but nothing in it)

Labrets, septum, tongue split (that I so desperately need redoing)

I used to crave the pain from piercings once I found a way to manage my self harm. It moved from damaging myself in a negative way to getting short term pain done professionally, for something that I would then like and keep on my body in the long term.

I've explained that the wrong way but I know what I mean, it's just difficult to put across.

Aye I know what you mean, at one point I went from your traditional cutting wrists up to piercing my ears. Didn't keep them in long, but it felt way better and instead of the scars and mess ended up with a piercing that would be removable and heal with barely anything to show for it.

Now I'm (hopefully) over all that, piercings are just a way of making me look pretty as opposed to a coping mechanism.

I don't mean that the only reason I got piercings was as a coping mechanism, it was just a progression and a positive one

I actually wanted the piercings too and can remember when, where, who I was with and which piercing place did them

Ah yeah, I get you Me either but at times it definitely helped me concentrate all that shite into something a little more positive! Mostly the ear ones were, my others were just cos I thought they were pwitty :D

Dead set on a transverse lobe now, and the thumb web piercing, even if it won't stay in long.

I think it'd appeal to me if I wasn't so fucking scared of needles.

Think self harm was always about the pain for me because it started initially to block out other feelings. Shocked myself out of it not so long ago when I opened up a huge gash in my arm and ended up in hospital. Stitches never closed up properly so I have a horrible wide purple scar now.

I tried to transfer the feelings into getting piercings, but I was always less about causing pain (razorblades barely hurt anyway) than obviously fucking myself up..hence the level of scar tissue I now I have, 10 years later 8)

..I do think some of those urges have been transfered to IVing though, something about the tidy medicalness of it all..I dunno..appeals to me..

I had a conversation with someone else who used to IV drugs about the ritual of self harm. They said they could see a link too, like you, they said it was all do with the cleanliness and having to take care of the places afterwards.

Yeps, I have scars from 5 years ago and a year ago. They'll fade eventually.

On the self harm vs body mod thing, as I just noticed that post, IMO it's all about intention.!

That's the best comparative definition of the two i've heard.

On a lighter note - i once had a scar across my left wrist.

I got it when walking in canada - i cut my wrist on a big thorn straight across the way. It actually bled quite a lot but fortunately i didn't get it quite deep enough to hit a vein so i wasn't in any real danger. Still took a few years to fade though.

Ive got a stupid amount of scars from self harm, alot that have faded - some that havent. I like to think Im over it but then something happens in my head and im back there again.

At least i havent done it since January.

On another note - and keeping this on topic, the guy who does my mods is setting up a suspension meet soon - im gunna gets me hung off meat hooks woot :D:D:D:D:D.

Never ever liked the look of being suspended by hooks. Imagine the adrenaline or endorphin rush would be huge though!

I've seen Criss Angel do it.

Depends what your into, people do it for different reasons - same with everything once again.

I know people whove done suspension and they absolutely hated it, they couldnt get off the ground for fear or for pain - suspension is apparently one of them things your either born to do or not do.

I personally cant wait to do it. If I dont do it then I know not to do it again - but something tells me Ill love it, and im positive I'm ready to take that step.

All very interesting, but i'd still not fancy it.

oooh i really like that! but after seeing how bad the scar from my first nape piercing is i don't think i'd like to risk scarring my face

i really really wanted to get a septum piercing once i'd slimmed back down, but after Rott's little escapade with the slutbag from work i've been right put off them

Yeah I'm worried about the possible rejection so was really hoping to heard some advice of people who have had one for a while. I was reading it is a viable long term piercing if done correctly though, tircky.

I used hate septum piercings but it's the only one I have left. Still love it even though it's wonky!

I love my septum piercing, it never closes up no matter how long I take it out for - thats probably because Ive had it done since I was 17 and got it pierced at 2.4mm and stretch it though ha.

Yeah i toyed with stretching it a bit to have a ring like you have in yours (not so big mind), but have never really fancied giving it a go.

My ring is a 4mm crescent - just doesnt look 4mm while I have it in, ive got one thats 5mm to put in aswell, saves tapering or just ramming a plug in.

It hurts like a bitch stretching it up like.
