EADD Benzo Discussion V. I forget

would a rapid taper like that work if the person had seizures recently due to benzo WD? say they had been using it for a week or so and were dosing 5mg+ a day then had a seizure because they went could turkey, would it be wise to rapidly taper like which acidtrippin is suggesting doing or could that lead to another seizure?

i feel it would be better if you tapered longer (few weeks) just incase of seizure acidtrippin, i really wouldnt want that happening as im sure u really dont, best sticking to just acidtrippin ;)

I find it highly unlikely that anybody would get seizures from a week's use of diazepam, whatever the dose. I've stopped cold turkey several times after six to eight weeks and felt nothing but the mildest symptoms.

I'm not recommending anybody follows my example, obviously. Tapering's always wise if you've been using benzos every day for a month or more. Though I do sometimes wonder whether people who could quit benzos with minimal problems are discouraged by the fear of withdrawals (particularly seizures). If you consider the fact that most people who purchase black market benzos do so to counter anxiety, it wouldn't be at all surprising if this were the case.

well a person did have a seizure after a week or so's use of XANAX so was concerned about whether a rapid taper is wise

cheers for the input MDB, ill ask him whether he has had any in his family, any other advice welcome

If somebody had a seizure after just a week's use, I'd be inclined to believe it wasn't due to xanax withdrawals but something else.

In any case, it sounds like they'd be better off getting advice from a doctor rather than a drugs forum, because that's highly unusual.

yea cause we all know doctors can be a great help when it comes to these types of drugs

"in pain? heres a paracetamol" "broken leg? some paracetamol will help that" "oh you have cancer? you will need strong pain relief, heres 8/500 co-codamol"

sorry i seem aggitated atm so apologies if i sound cheeky

Um... it isn't the drugs you need to be concerned about. It's the fact that your friend may well be epileptic.

Seizures are actually pretty rare in benzodiazepine withdrawal. They're almost entirely unheard of after one week's use. That would worry me sick if it were my friend.

Don't dismiss all doctors just because the majority of them don't play nice and break out the Smarties. Your friend needs proper medical attention.

It's not about winning. And sorry if I sound like a preachy fucker. :D

It's just too serious not to have it checked out. Especially if the guy's taking other drugs too.

I only took 20mg scripted diazepam & 20mg Msj vals yesterday but god I didn't half feel them. I remember being wobbly on my feet and not being able to walk through doorways without banging into the door frame.
Woke up this morning to find a half smoked roll up on my bed,had a cuppa then fell asleep again for 2 more hours.

the amount of times on benzos and opis that i burnmed my bedsheets was embarrassing, id just love smoking in that noddy state as compltely irresponsible as it was. Im totally fucked this morning bouncing off walls, was hammering the eetiz solution by the tablespoonfull last night to counteract the modafinil. It did work, but im not fit to leave the house !

Had trouble regulating my etiz use last night too. This is since the ethyl mini binge 2 nights ago. My tolerance has definately come down since i was taking ~25mg so i really dont want to be going right back up there again. Its fucking hard to get a grip on this stuff right now though. Appranetly there is a "tranquiler support group" in the area.

FFS they need to change their name though, no one calls them tranquilers any more, its benzodiazapines you twats. Its not like barbiturates are commonly available either is it. :\

tranquilers? that's not a word.

tranquilizers is a word. Maybe even tranquilisers.

benzodiazepam is not a word either! Benzodiazepine is.

Some people are taking too many benzodiazepams and tranquilers :D

They may be typos but it's only two letters more you know!

"tranquilisers" is a generic term which covers multiple categories of more specific chemical or pharmacological families. In other words, as wikipedia says, it's "imprecise", and there is a tendency to use more precise terms if they are accurate, which they might not be, it would be wrong to call methaqualone a benzo, it is a tranquiliser, or more specifically a "sedative-hypnotic". But that's a word I've copied and pasted from wikipedia, which has an american bias.

This is a bit like saying "downer" is out of date and redundant, when it's actually not, it's street slang though and imprecise.
