EADD 2012 Official UK Mushroom Thread

He says that the black goo on them says something about their potency? How much of that is true?

Never heard of that in my life.

Make sure your mate knows what he's picking and he's not some sort of self-styled expert who'd rather be wrong than say "I don't know".

The first is a lovely hill with human and animal presence. Some fields on it are used as farm crops but most are left for the wildlife. It is approximately 200m, mostly grass or bracken-y kind of stuff and is very much in the wind.
The second is the fields around this hill. I think a lot of them are open to hikers but some i know are strictly off limit farm fields. Most fields have fairly well kept grass as far as I'm aware and haven't ever actually scouted these fields but were suggested by my newb friends who I'm picking with after they heard my description of whats needed.
The third is the woodland near the above areas, been there when i was 8. They are big and i think the trees are coniferous. This is all I know I'm afraid.
The fourth is the woodland and fields around my area. The woodland is deciduous, starting to lose leaves. Woodchipping paths are basically area but there is plenty of floor space between trees with ferns and stuff that is easily accessible. There isn't much traffic through the woods but it's next to a fairly busy main road. The fields have sheep and cows and horses in, plenty of poop about most are fairly scruffy long grass with some nice sites.
Thoughts?

#4 fields have nothing. In the fields though, the only micro-organism I saw were these orange slodges on some dry cowpat so I suspect they have all been fungicided. There is one field i wasn't able to venture to because it meant crossing a medium sized stream... with cows in... May go back there with friends some time in near future. Didn't check the woodland but I will on the way out tomorrow, it won't take long if there is any.

going to #1 and #2 tomorrow, probably starting with the hill then moving down to fields. Such a disappointment but there was something good that came out of todays trip:
I haven't been up to those fields when it hasn't been covered in like 2 foot of snow for years, in fact since some saplings were about a foot tall. So when I got to these 'saplings' I got incredibly disorientated because I had never seen these 12 foot orange trees in this place before. Was a nice feeling when I realised where I was and what they were. Walked up over the hills overlooking the town was beautiful as well and I left all technology except a camera up there, real beauty. If only it were a nice sunny day I could have seen out to sea and it's even been heard that you can see part of Wales from there on an absolutely clear day

That cold outside is real bad .... defenite frost ... will that kill em for good anyone know ? and IM desperate here ... Any one in dublin with a car .. Help a bluelighter out with a lift ... to quote boyz nd the hood "I will suck your DIck maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan" .........

just been up to the same fields iwas at last Sunday, from where I reported a bumper crop....

Just checked on the Ordnance Survey map and they at 350m elevation.

Anyway, it seems last week was the peak there, far fewer there this week, and hardly any new tackers coming up....

Could be a glitch, and if we have a good soaking this week there might be a few more pushing up, or I might just have to move to some lower fields as the season progresses.....

how many days do you reckon it takes for these to 'resprout'? I know little about funghi :s

very very cold out over nights, just dipping under 0 over nights and rarely breaking 10 daytime, with plenty of rain. I seriously hope it dries up a bit so we can go out for a bit of a hunt later in the week

Was at a party on the moors and people were selling mushrooms. Coals to Newcastle or what?

Was at a party on the moors and people were selling mushrooms. Coals to Newcastle or what?

thats fuckin mental, i was invited to a party on the moor on saturday, I imagined there would have been a lot of shrooms there, but I imagined people would have been giving them away to each other.... :(

S'bad juju to sell shrooms you've picked imo

I'm not superstitious, but I just think it's pretty bad form, what? =D

Specially if you're at a party with fellow party-goers and you managed to get there an hour before dark, pick a load, then try to flog them....

Only case i see it as okay is if the people with the rig and setting up the party are flogging a few to pay for kit or whatever...

anyone still finding any or is it too late? Figured those frosty nights we had may have killed em off!

^ My housemate got about 30 yesterday so not too late but very slim pickings. The season is nearly over here.

The West of Ireland is still producing according to friends, no frost here, quite mild for the time if year.

I had thirty last Friday went out to the pub, nice little trip drank about a gallon of stout then came home for a few smokes and more beer, best night for a while, but mushrooms are my favourite drug.
