This whole month, Jan 1st-Jan 20th, there were only a few rare days when I was not on 300mg DXM. Before that I was doing about 300mg every other day in the form of cough gels. I now, for about a week, little more, little less, not sure, have been doing 300/550/600/900mg every day. I've been trying to bring it down to every other day, but it's been so helpful in reducing my anxiety, my stress, my depression and my feelings. I love the numbness. I have been taking 1mg Klonopin and 37.5MG Effexor XR for a little more/less than a week now prescribed by my psychiatrist too, with some ativan mixed in.

I'm struggling today to not dose with another 600mg DXM, I've been able to, with great, GREAT difficulty, hide the effects of the dxm from loved ones/ones close to me, including my girlfriend of over a year. I have pushed the effects they have noticed off on the klonopin/walking around the house in the middle of the night on nightmares. I've taken Seroquel 50mg when I want to sleep/trip to end because i have school/work or school+work the next day. I'm not sure on my situation, am I going to be okay? Am I healthy? Will this kill myself? I'm just in a lot of confusion/bad situation/kind of scared right now.

(Due to certain circumstances, read: financial, I cannot/will not see another doctor to do blood work/physical check ups/etc, that type of thing, and seeing as I have few means of transportation other than asking loved ones, I'd have to reveal to them my predicament and I can't do that, so, basically, my typing probably seems a little confused right now, I cannot see a doctor for tests/other stuff).

I don't want to pressure but a quick response is a good idea lol thank you I'm trying my best to cope =)

and eat hot pockets!

What is you main question? If you will have any permanant damage, or if you will have immediate severe problems...
I have taken 100mg seroquel about 10 different times, and just slept and had a light hangover (dry mouth, head ache) from it.
I randomly take DXM, but not on a regualr basis. You should be fine, just stop taking the stuff all the time. I'm assuming that you are kinda young, so your body/brain can repair itself rather quickly as long as you allow it to.

I'm scared there will be permanent damage. But no, I took 600mg and am on it right now and am going to watch Avatar on my comp. It should be pretty damn good.

Taking DXM like you are (and have been doing) does have negative health consequences. It has neurotoxic effects (Olney's Lesions) in the brain, acting as an NDMA antagonist. This can result in a decrease in mental performance, and is thought to be the same mechanism by which Alzheimer's disease develops. These effects can be long-lasting and even permanent.

Other side effects include mania, memory and language impairment, and decreased immune function.

Not good stuff. I'd recommend talking to your current psychiatrist and work on getting your depression and anxiety under control with them.

it's many times the first step to drug addiction. people start with robo because it's legal, affordable, and you get hella twisted. you will start doing whatever to get fucked up and eventually move to bigger and harder dugs. oh yea not to mention the neurotoxic damage of DXM.

What damage is that? Hopefully I'm fine. I really love this girl I'm with...

Still not proven in humans, btw...

@OP

It's certainly not good for you, but honestly, I've done the same thing. it started loosing it's magic and making me feel more hungover the next day.

The good thing is that the effects are reversible if you stop using. It will take awhile though.

how much of a decrease in mental performance are we talking? that's the kind of stuff that makes me not want to try DXM but i want to try it so badly.

You should be fine bro, I'd be more worried about taking benzos if your prone to drug abuse, They imo do far more dmg and withdraws are a bitch if you get hooked. Anyways I see information in here that's wrong.

Do some research on the net about DXM toxicity. The legions have never been proven in Humans and to most researchers. There has never been a case of it even with long time abusers doing way more then you 10x longer.

Honestly Don't worry yourself just lower your dose and do it once in a while. If you want to know the damage you caused your brain go get a catscan. I'm a x Meth abuser (10x more toxic then dxm if abused) And I was using hardcore off and on for 5 years. I went to get a catscan the brain damage I caused at age 21 can be repaired over time.....

Your fine bro lol. Well everyone is diff but yeah.

^^

sweet looks like i might be trippin this weekend then! lol jk, but definitely in the near future.

Yeah the guy saying about all the negative effects need to go learn a thing or 2 about dxm before posting on a harm reduction site.

Your health with any substance will have some issues....but 95% of the time if your young the body can repair the damage that has been done over time and a break from the drug you are taking. And imo Dxm is a weak drug compared to drugs K and other hard drugs in which i seen people who abused for years recovery with minor damage done.

Just read about the toxic effects and do more research before going by what people say. See your doctor....you should be able to get blood work done and shit even if your poor as shit, do some research in your local area there is always a way.

I'm travelling to a conference today but I will post all my sources later tonight if I have a chance. Every statement I made is supported by primary literature.

^^

did u find out anything at your conference? i would like to make sure before i try this stuff.

dxm is rough on your brain and kidneys i believe.
tbh, most of your problems are getting alot worse from constant dxm use, talk to someone close to you that you trust and ask for help.

Based on?

not alot of that is really conclusive, and dxm does lower your brain activity, it can recover but you gotta stop for that to happen. dissociatives are hard on your brain, and can royally fuck your memory

If you value your brain, I would recommend a steep reduction in your frequency of use. Make no mistake that you are dealing with a substance that is potentially damaging, and has a legitimate addiction potential, and as such is certainly something that is not healthy to be using every day, every second day, or even on a weekly basis.

Sure, Onley's lesions have not been proven to manifest in human brains, but so what? Do you guys think that NAN is the only mechanism of neurotoxicity that could be causing the memory problems, loss of verbal skills, and overall cognitive impairment that so many long-time DXM users experience? Hell, the hypoxia alone from high doses of DXM is probably enough hurt you, not to mention the fact that we KNOW that all NMDA antagonists cause permanent neurological changes (ever wonder why dissociative tolerences never go away?). Even regular Ketamine users have been shown to experience memory impairment, and all signs point to K being by far the least toxic of the common dissociatives (with the possible exception of N2O, but most people wouldn't consider it a dissociative in the same sense as K, DXM, PCP, etc. even though it does have NMDA antagonistic properties).

On a personal note, I can tell you that DXM and Ketamine are the only drugs I have ever struggled with keeping in moderation, and I can't help but feel that DXM may have damaged certain aspects of my memory and higher cognitive functions, however slight this impairment may be. So even though I have derived much enjoyment from the drug, I would not recommend its recreational use on the scale that you have been consuming it.
