Dutch police complain it is their right to smoke cannabis while off-duty

if i remember right (and i could be wrong about this so don't flame me) isn't it technically not legal to get stoned in the netherlands? i know marijuana is SOLD legally and no one is arrested for smoking it but isn't it still technically against the law? and if so, then shouldn't police officers abide by the law even if its a law that's not ever enforced?

.. why do we even have police???? ha. I have never hard one thing done right by them??

put the pipe down and be realistic. police do a lot more good than harm.

Not to be the grammar Nazi, but it's spelled fascist.

If you're a known stoner, you have to be/act smart all the time, or you will be stereotyped!

... yeah and if you correct people all the time you will be stereotyped as a square. stoner pride.

No, you're right. Possesion of small amounts, and sale of small amounts of cannabis/hash by licensed coffeeshops isn't prosecuted, but it is illegal by law, the law just isn't enforced for possesion of less than 25 grams, or sale of less than 5 grams by a licensed coffeeshop, as a rule by the goverment. Smoking cannabis is illegal by law, but the police just turn a blind eye, but officers smoking cannabis, even in their own time, after work, are breaking the law.

yeah, you have to buy it off the cops is what I heard.
Yeah, shure... The ban of psilocybe mushrooms will take affect in a few months, and from that moment on they're classed as hard drugs, and possesion etc will be prosecuted as such. They are still being sold by smartshops and in Amsterdam, by some touristshops as well. Just a clarification for the ignorant & stupid...

I would do the polite thing and wake him up and recommend he leave. :)

I tried to wake him up... He wasn't having any of it. Plus he kicked my door open.... I was living in NY at the time, and it was January. had I removed him myself he would have frozen to death.

When has it ever been a right to take drugs? :\
Actually taking drugs has never been illegal in the Netherlands AFAIK.
Only possession and trade can be outlawed.
Private persons have the right to do to themselves what they like (or dislike).
That includes drug use.
Amazes me to no end that the laws in some "civilised" countries do not recognise that basic freedom.
Anyway that's why policemen and others resist that rule, not because they insist on smoking dope, but because it's an attack on their freedom.
What's next? Outlawing "bad thoughts"? Heh. =D

Since back in the day, when nigga's had ways, gazzle shades and corn braids.. Thats when!!

WTF are you even doing on a pro drug forum??

I personally think cops should be required to get stoned before every shift, it'd give em a better perspective, I'd much rather deal with a stoned cop than a sober cop, it'd cut out about 90% of the bullshit they give people.. seriously.
You people act like getting high makes you stupid or slow or some shit..

I guess some people should be drug tested like airline pilots, train conducters, surgens etc. But cops can be such dicks I wouldn't mind if their were more stoner cops, as long as they weren't hypocrites and didn't steal peoples herb, LOL..

I agree completely. You run in to some cop, who is just as high as you are. Do you honestly think he is going to waste his time with you? He is going to be too preoccupied with just trying to stay chill and conserve his energy, because there is the possibility that he might have to deal with an actual criminal, considering he is, you know, on duty. Cops who care enough about their right to smoke in addition to still maintaining their careers are going to know to safeguard against making a huge mistake that could jeopordize all of that. =D

Just a thought.

Then again, I know there is the definite possibilty that I am romanticizing it a bit, given that where Ilive, the idea of the police fighting for their right to smoke pot is just some unimaginable thing of beauty.

recently i observed that Amsterdam has the nicest police in the world. they wouldnt even hassle me no matter how fucked up i got. they just laughed with me.
now i know why!
