Oh, come on. As much as I am against ANY laws against personal possession of a drug, there is a world of difference between possession of a few joints and possession of 650g of coke. Even the biggest cokehead in the world is not going to have 650g of cocaine for personal use only. QUOTE]
This is where I fundamentally disagree. I don't believe there are absolute limits with regards to amounts of drugs necessarily being for one use, while different amounts are necessarily for another. Prison sentances, particularly life sentances, should not be based on these assumption- yet they are.
I was always under the impression that their laws are what they are due to religious reasons.
And our laws are what they are not because of religious reasons. (At least not mostly because of religion.)
Wrong?
I'm not entirely sure. various Central, East and Southeast Asian nations have similar heavy handed and obscene penalties for drug possession/sale, I'm not sure how many or which of these nations base their laws on religious interpretation.
Though given the global economic and political situation for the last 90 years, I highly doubt that many of these foreign governments would have instituted or continued such policies without the approval and aid of the US government.
