Drugs that mimic schizophrenia

Drugs can mimic certain aspects of schizophrenia but I don't think it is possible to replicate it exactly. Its akin to asking what drug feels most like having sex. One might answer injecting heroin is like a full body orgasm but you can only get so close to the feeling of the real deal. Besides this it is likely that schizophrenia is multiple complex disorders all termed under the same umbrella label. So one mans schizo is not the same as the next. But I assume we are talking about paranoid schizzophrenia.
With that said, it is my opinion that dissociatives come really close in many ways, just look at all of the delusions of heavy K abusers. Synchronicity is just a delusional thought process. Also cannabinoids in high doses have a pronounced delusional dissociative aspect to them.

My psych professor has told me that PCP is the drug that most resembles psychosis

^^^agreed confusion, visual distortions, halucinations, paranoia, the whole 9. I believe there was a study done in the 50s? where they gave pcp to schizophrenics and taped it (the goal was to see if it would reverse the efects like speed and ADD. The one guy started punching the wall untill his hand was a stump basiclly......I bet the people that administered that were pretty dissapointed with their findings.

not that it is pleasant in any way, but a high dose of benedryl seems to mimic schizophrenia, as in the hallucinations are usually people that you cant tell are hallucinations, you hear several different voices whispering to you in the back of your head, and you get a strong feeling of paranoia and become very delusional...IME at least

the closest I can say from outside observation was phencyclidine mixed with methamphetamine. He resembled a schizo better then any one else on drugs IU've some across

I don't think bendryl/diphenhydramine really mimics schitzophrenia, more like delirium. I've done the ;large doses of bendryl and i didn't feel physchotic just delious and hallucinaiting and wacky, seeing things that weren't there with my eyes closed and beleiveing for a few seconds they were real, have expierenced the same thing with Seroquel, just seems cleaner with less side effects. PCP/K seems the closest along with that drug the army used, BZP?
