To get onto the cold thing a little more... for me anyways, feeling cold is one of the longest lasting symptoms of opiate withdrawal. After the runny nose, heavy perspiration, feet clenching, twitching, insomnia, oversleeping, exhaustion, mood swings and eratic behavior are totally gone, I still feel cold. It takes about 3-4 weeks before I get over it.
Last August when it was between 90-100 degrees out, I wasn't working while I was trying to quit. My house was about 75. And I was shivering while wearing long pants and a sweatshirt. I would actually have to sit outside to feel warm. And lord knows what my neighbors thought with me sitting on the front porch chainsmoking dressed like that.
I've only tried Clonadine twice when it was given to me by a friend. I was going through the peak of withdrawals after using for 6 months straight and it was pretty worthless. I didn't feel any noticeably better. Then again, if it helped with the cold feelings, I don't know. I just remember feeling so horribly sick I wanted to die.
Anymore when I see questions where someone is asking about an easy way to detox, my first reaction is to be like "you're detoxing from heroin, what do you expect!?" But then again, I was asking these same questions during my several failed attempts to kick.
If you have Subutex to help you ease off instead of going cold turkey, you're really lucky. And if you can get Clonadine from your doctor or whoevers supplying you with the Subutex, great. It will probably help out to some extent.
But the bottom line is, there is no easy way to detox. There is no way to make it painless (unless maybe you do one of those rapid-detox things). If you're using the Subutex just to ease off and not as maintainence, you're going to have to stop taking that, too, and it's going to suck and you're going to feel miserable and want to die for a week or two. You'll probably start questioning why you even wanted to quit in the first place and start thinking it's not worth it. You know you've only got to go 7-14 days and you'll be okay, but it seems like an eternity. You start questioning if you can even do it without realizing how irrational you sound. There's just no easy way to quit. And the only thing that really makes it better is knowing that if you do it now instead of later, it won't be as bad.
And what's really scary is to know if you wanted to experience hell you'd need only develop a serious opiate addiction and quit cold turkey. But even after going through it SEVERAL times and having gotten yourself straight is that it's so easy to relapse again even when you're telling yourself you're going to have to go through it again.
