i like heavy trippy stuff. my favorites are monster magnet (early stuff is much better to start with), kyuss, electric wizard, and sleep (especially the over sixty minute song "dopesmoker.")
i also like hateful slow stuff like eyehategod and grief just cuz its heavy.
as for the classics i'm into black sabbath and captain beyond.
i can dig the melvins and good sonic youth is amazing.
it all depends, somtimes i want trippy music like pink floyd or the doors, somtimes i want hardcore fast ragining punk rock(not blink 182 sum41 bullshit) or others i feel like crazy ass, shredding black metal (DISSECTION mostly, the best black metal band to walk the earth)
My flatmate and I both work office jobs, and when we get home at like 8pm, all wound up from work, I do love a bit of cypress - black sunday... Sets the mood. Clean the screen...
In a more contemplative mood, maybe the floyd, tool, yes, and other prog rock bands.... Or even NIN, APC, other sorta industrial rock groups.
Sometimes a bit of ben harper is nice to relax to.
If i'm in the mood, good detroit or paris house, really cranking electro, etc. can be nice.
