Alcohol has effects on the GABA receptors in your brain so any other drug that acts on them may produce a similar high. The most commonly associated chemicals are benzodiazepines (you might have heard of brand name Vallium?) which also effect GABA levels and are actually used to help alcoholics detox.
That being said the purpose of the Other Drugs forum is harm reduction. Asking a basic question like this isn't really appropriate for it so I'm going to close this thread now. The OD Guidelines might give you a better idea of what is and isn't acceptable here. Feel free to check out the OD Directory in my signature for information on benzos and if you have any questions just send me a PM.
Welcome! This really isn't appropriate for the Other Drugs forum - please have a look at the guidelines and standards links in my signature for clarification Also feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
There are lots of drugs that work similarly to alcohol. Here is a list of drugs that share pharmacological properties to some extent. If you'd like more specific information about individual drugs listed there, feel free to search around and check the directory in my signature and if you can't find answers doing that, feel free to start a new thread. Most topics have been covered quite a bit so please search around and check the directory before creating new threads.
Again, if you have ANY questions, feel free to private message me.
