I recently started taking prozac and am seeking info on the effects of different drugs while under the influence of it. i know that it's impossible to roll, and the bottle says that alcohol can cause severe drowsiness. what will happen especially on drugs like pot, shrooms, etc? also, what's the difference between SSRI's like prozac and non-SSRI anti-depressents like benzo's?
thanks

For starters, SSRI anti-depressants are no fun, and half no recreational value. And benzodiazapine anxiety relievers, and sleep-aids, do have recreational value and are fun.

well? what is it like to smoke weed when you're on prozac? i'd imagine that it'd be pretty much the same...maybe a little more strung out

btw, i never expected the effects of recreational drugs to be increased...i was just wondering more about the risks

I was on Zoloft for over a year and noticed no difference in smoking pot or drinking alcohol.

I think Danthemanz is a little Spartan…… Here is what I found to be true from the people I have talked to. You are not them, so your mileage may vary.
Weed + SSRI….not too much of a problem, although if you are taking the SSRI for anxiety, THC may increase this and thus negate your SSRI.
MDMA + SSRI…..waste of money unless you take a lot , which you shouldn’t when you are taking and SSRI
Shrooms/cid+ SSRI….. A reduced effect, this can be compensated for by taking more LSD/psilocibin. I have not noticed any strange negative interaction, nor has anyone else I know other than the loss of potency of the trip. It took roughly 2x as much hallucionogen to get the same effect as taken at baseline.
SSRI+Speed…… hmmm, haven’t tried it. I imagine they would work ok together, if taken moderately. I am sure others will have more on this…….. The up/down swing of speed makes treating depression or anxiety a real bitch.
SSRI+coke… no problems reported.
SSRI-K……nothing strange noted
SSRI Ethanol……. Worse hangover /headache
SSRI+DXM…… dangerous and nasty for most, some like it more than without the SSRI.
SSRI+Benzo….. just fine. But see below.
Benzos work on a different set of receptors called GABA receptors. To put it in simple terms, they make GABA work better. GABA is used by your brain to slow down (inhibitory) signal, thus drugs like benzo’s booze and GHB all are sedative. This is a bummer if you have chronic depression and you take Benzo’s as they can increase the chance of more severe depressive symptoms. They are prescribed for anxiety. They also have a terrible terrible withdraw if taken in excess for too long.

I was on prozac for a while, 40 mg/daily. My observations were as follows (and they are much like Dr.Quack's)...
weed: same effects
alcohol: same effects, possibly *slightly* lower tolerance
coke: *slightly* reduced effects, but basically the same effects
mdma: completely impossible, even w/ 450 mg pure MDMA. zero effects.
meth: still got good effects, but noticeably better effects when NOT medicaÝed
lsd/shrooms: slightly higher tolerance (need more of the drug), but otherwise identical effects

Spar·tan (spärtn)
adj.
1:Of or relating to Sparta or its people.
also spartan
2:Rigorously self-disciplined or self-restrained.
3:Simple, frugal, or austere: a Spartan diet; a spartan lifestyle.
4:Marked by brevity of speech; laconic.
Courageous in the face of pain, danger, or adversity.

Thanks a lot, guys. While we're on the topic of prozac, I'm just wondering: how much is usually required to see big results? i've been taking it for almost 2 weeks and haven't experienced any big improvements (20 mg/day).

6-10 weeks. Maybe more maybe less....definatly longer than two weeks for full results.

how much better did you feel after 2 months?
how much more motivated? happy? talkative?

After 2 months on prozac, I did not feel more motivated, more alive, and I was certainly not more talkative. I felt like I was in a neverending dream, was disturbingly numb to emotion, and slept too much. I also had no libido to speak of and was unable to come. The prozac did, however, almost if not completely cure me of my obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions. Still, it wasn't worth it for me...

right now i feel very distant from my normal state. i don't feel strung out, i just feel numb. not a nice marijuana numb, a boring/uncomfortable numb. fuck prozac!

Dont take this as advice, but from what ive been reading about prozak and similar anti-ds lately i wouldnt consider taking them.My doctor tried prescribing me paroxetine a couple of weeks ago,on top of my other anti-ds,but i stopped taking them a day later coz of the nasty side effects they gave me.(paroxetine is also an ssri). If i can cope without them, theres no point in getting hooked on these as well, and believe, they will cause nasty withdrawals when you try and quit them after a while.
