Here’s a scary story out of Canada.
Quoted from Canada.com. Link below.
Neighbours are still reeling at the macabre discovery of a shallow grave found by police during a raid on a Maple Ridge grow-op.
“It’s astonishing to think that it’s almost in your own backyard,” said one neighbour, who didn’t want to be identified.
The front of the weathered house that was raided was partially visible Saturday through the fenced, gated and wooded acreage. A large doghouse, several vehicles and a large trailer obscured the doorway and windows.
Elsewhere on the property, investigators and forensic anthropologists were beginning the “painstakingly slow” and methodical process of exhuming the remains over the weekend.
Police are positive the body part found belongs to a human, but are still unable to say whether it is a man or woman’s body, they say.
A police service dog unearthed a protruding body part while combing the heavily treed rental property in the 28000-block 112th Avenue during Thursday’s raid.
“At that point the search was ceased and the scene was treated as a potential homicide scene,” RCMP Supt. Dave Walsh said Friday, adding that its still unknown whether foul play is involved.
Walsh said the rest of the body is believed to be buried in the grave.
The 55-year-old sole occupant of the home is facing drug-related charges in connection with the more than $1,000 cash, marijuana plants, and grow equipment found inside the home.
He has been remanded into custody pending his first court appearance Monday.
Residents in the rural area surrounding the dilapidated home told The Province they always had suspicions about the home’s resident.
“That guy has always been there for years and he was sort of trouble,” one neighbour said. “He and the house just didn’t fit in this area.”
The property’s owner, who was shocked to learn about the raid and subsequent discovery of a body when contacted by The Province, declined to comment.
