Drug bust leads officers to shallow grave – Maple Ridge, Canada

Here’s a scary story out of Canada.

Quoted from Canada.com. Link below.

Neighbours are still reeling at the macabre discovery of a shallow grave found by police during a raid on a Maple Ridge grow-op.

“It’s astonishing to think that it’s almost in your own backyard,” said one neighbour, who didn’t want to be identified.

The front of the weathered house that was raided was partially visible Saturday through the fenced, gated and wooded acreage. A large doghouse, several vehicles and a large trailer obscured the doorway and windows.

Elsewhere on the property, investigators and forensic anthropologists were beginning the “painstakingly slow” and methodical process of exhuming the remains over the weekend.

Police are positive the body part found belongs to a human, but are still unable to say whether it is a man or woman’s body, they say.

A police service dog unearthed a protruding body part while combing the heavily treed rental property in the 28000-block 112th Avenue during Thursday’s raid.

“At that point the search was ceased and the scene was treated as a potential homicide scene,” RCMP Supt. Dave Walsh said Friday, adding that its still unknown whether foul play is involved.

Walsh said the rest of the body is believed to be buried in the grave.

The 55-year-old sole occupant of the home is facing drug-related charges in connection with the more than $1,000 cash, marijuana plants, and grow equipment found inside the home.

He has been remanded into custody pending his first court appearance Monday.

Residents in the rural area surrounding the dilapidated home told The Province they always had suspicions about the home’s resident.

“That guy has always been there for years and he was sort of trouble,” one neighbour said. “He and the house just didn’t fit in this area.”

The property’s owner, who was shocked to learn about the raid and subsequent discovery of a body when contacted by The Province, declined to comment.

This is a crazy story. They have no idea who the dead person is. Even really bad people grow pot.

^^ Yes, bad people CAN grow pot. Just as easily as anyone else can, being bad isn't a prerequisite. It's instances like these (although ironically rare) that help fuel the anti-pot supporters. Using this article any others like it they can argue the point the cannabis is associated with violence and crime, however A) That correlation could be found comparing violence and crime with any VAST number of things - not just cannabis, leading me to my second point, this is caused directly by prohibition, NOT cannabis itself.

What a misleading article title. It makes it sound like some cops who busted a grow-op later were murdered.

A newspaper giving an article a misleading and sensational title? Now I've seen everything.

Someone giving themselves a pat on the back for prejudice and stereotyping.

^You can't really blame them when the guy turned out to have a corpse in his yard...

Yes i don't quite get it either as ive certainly never seen the likes of it in my time :\ . A newspaper insinuating claims just to make a few bucks? Now ive heard it all 8)

Fuck knows how long that body could have been there and despite all the people i know that have had grop ops none of them have had bodies in their yard or anywhere on their property really. Thats rather odd if you go by the anti-drug nuts. Im not saying that the guy who ran the grow op might not have very well have put the guy in the ground himself but the 2 might not be related at all.

But as we all know from the anti-drug propaganda we have been bombarded with since we where very little drugs = prison, homelessness, death or all 3

I was at Maple Ridge yesterday for a skateboard competition. Weird thinking that shit like this is happening 30 minutes away from my home.

I Love how the nieghbours act as if they never liked the guy to save face.
