First off, I want to say that I don't drive while intoxicated on anything, nor should anyone else. Driving while under the influence is one of the few ways to turn YOUR drug use into something that's dangerous for other people, which is entirely unacceptable. That being said, I did it many, many times, years ago. I was stupid and selfish, and one day I realized that there was no excuse for that behavior and I haven't driven under the influence even once ever since. Now, to the actual topic:

Do any of you find that you're able to drive entirely fine on any substance? (not including doses high enough to make you pass out). Obviously there are many drugs that inhibit judgment and reaction time, this question applies to driving in normal circumstances (i.e. not being brake checked or a kid jumping in the road), but just driving around without any obstacles that would normally arise while driving. I've driven on benzos, psychadelics, opiates, weed, alcohol, stimulants, empathogens, disassociatives, you name it. Never once did ANY of them make me drive any worse than I would sober (this was backed up countless times by astonished passengers, both sober and high). No matter how messed up I was, I would just think about 3 things: my speed, keeping the wheel straight, and stopping when I was supposed to. I once drove on 30mg of oxy, 60mg of morphine, 12mg of valium, 4mg of klonopin, 2 grams of shrooms, and a lot of weed with 0 problems. This was probably the stupidest thing I've ever done, and I've done a lot of very stupid things. Like I said earlier, I made the decision not to do this ever again years ago, despite not having any problems. Absolutely not worth the risk. So, has anyone else found this to be the case?

Regrettably I have driven on a variety of substances. Driven drunk a handful of times, too. Not proud of any of that but it did happen.

The strangest is when you've been high on meth for several days and your brain has pretty much shut down...I remember sitting zoned out at a stop sign for a good thirty seconds after stopping, with no oncoming traffic to wait for, until I realized what was going on and thought "I need to get off the road as soon as possible". It wasn't reckless driving but any cop observing my driving would have found it to be highly suspicious, I think.

Never once did ANY of them make me drive any worse than I would sober...
how do you measure something like that reliably and objectively?

"don't get high and drive. disregard this if you happen to be one of those people who drive better high." (paraphrasing the onion)

maybe you don't drive as well when you're high? maybe you just think you do. because, you know, you're high...

This sounds like the exact opposite of a HR thread lol, it's probably better suited for drug culture. I've also sworn of intoxicated driving since my younger days.

There have been times when nicotine has impared my driving far worse than alcohol. I don't really drive bad on anything but alcohol and benzos. I'm fine on opiates, methylphenidate, amp, kratom, and weed. There is an exception with weed, when I smoke a sedating strain I tend to get a bit too relaxed behind the wheel. I've never wrecked or had any kind of accident as a result of substances, but that is probably just luck.

In my state, you can get a DUI for driving while medicated...

I'll drive off of my Opana doses, but would never drive off a benzo (i dont take benzos), or alcohol.

I dislike drunk drivers with a passion.

Although you give a disclaimer about how dangerous it is to drive under the influence, you then go on to pretty much contradict everything you said. It's impossible to accurately measure your driving skill under the influence because your impaired to begin with. I'm skeptical of these supposed witnesses as any sane and sober person able to judge how well your driving wouldn't jump into a car with someone on...

I can't think of a thread more against the goal of BDD so I'm gonna close this. I personally don't feel comfortable moving this to DC so if you feel this should be moved feel free to PM one of our other BDD mods and see how they feel about doing that. I'd gloss over the guidelines as well to get a better idea of what content is suitable for BDD.
