the same goes for other drugs; alcohol, pot, MDMA, acid, mushrooms, DXM, hallucinogens, whatever... the fact is that these chemicals impair your judgement and slow your responses.
That's not neccessarily true. Not all of those drugs slow your responses or neccessarily even impair your judgement. I can think and move about 10 times faster on LSD than I ever could sober. I used to be able to count the number of cars coming in the opposite lane out of my peripheral vision on acid without even trying. It basically kicked my brain into 6th gear.
You also have to remember that some people's brains don't function properly to begin with and require drugs to get them working correctly.
Overall, yes, I do agree with you. It is almost always unsafe to drive on drugs, most of them do impair the users judgement and/or reaction times. But there are also exceptions. Some people use drugs and/or alcohol so often that when they're high or drunk is the only time they act normal.
my father (a cyclist) was killed last year when he was hit by a young woman driving on MDMA and Meth (here's the threadin Aus social). think about how that must be affecting her. think about how it's affecting my family. driving on drugs is stupid, dangerous and almost always unnecessary.
I really hate to do this to you, but I have to tell you the truth.
Cyclist are annoying fuckers completely devoid of common sense. Instead of using bike paths and other areas where they aren't obstructing traffic, they like to get right in the middle of it, riding inches between gravel and cars. Often if there are bike paths by a road, they will choose to ride in the road anyways. As a drive, I understand how much of a hazzard cyclists represent. I've nearly killed at least a dozen of them in the past few years as they always seem to be on busy roads where cars are travelling fast and don't understand that people in automobiles don't have a lot of space to swerve out of their way (they love to get partially in the lanes that drivers use) because we'll hit other cars.
Here's what happened to your dad. He was wearing some gay ass neon spandex and a stupid looking helmet. For some reason, he thought he looked very cool and his ego was inflated that day. Because his ego was so big, he decided to ride his bike way into a lane of traffic. As this lady was coming around a turn, there was no way she could have seen your dad, even though he was wearing neon purple and pink and yellow, because the trees and kangeroos were blocking her sight. All of the sudden your dad was plowed into the woman's grill, totally destroying the front end of her car and getting blood everywhere.
I bet you never thought about the fact that the poor lady's insurance probably doesn't cover damage caused by human collisions. And I bet you never considered that this lady probably had to pay a few hard earned bucks taking her car to the car wash to get the blood out when she could have spent that money on some more ecstasy or another bag of meth or something.
Not to mention the lady is probably traumatized now all because your dad couldn't use a frikkin' bike path or sidewalk or something.
If you ride a bike and take it out where there are cars, you aren't only asking to be hit, you deserve it.
