Dreadlocks

yeah, i'm guessing you had a bit of an odor, but eh....only the normals could pick up on it ;(

fizzacyst...my hair was about five or six inches on the top, and the sides and lower back was much shorter, like three inches (yeah, i had given myself an attrocious haircut a month or so before =D)

they came in really strange because of the big length differences....like, the back and sides weren't long enough to matt and lock up, so i had a bird's nest on only the top and short straight hair on the sides....and then when the top really started getting knatted and gnarly, the sides and back were longer, so those parts were longer than the top!! :p now the top is well dreaded, but still pretty short, and the sides and back are only now starting to lock and dread up....

there aren't any rules to all this matted hair, and you know your hair and your postion better than anyone else.....just be patient!!!

poetess......what are your thoughts on all this and your own hair?

:)

Wow, I had to cut mine for work but now that my hair is finally getting long (it is really thick, curley and grows fast) I notice that its starting to dread again. Ahh well, looks like no more baseball hats for me.

Anyways I'm all about natural dreadlocks, I just think they look better. As for the smell when your on tour, I personally have never been big on the showers (I always brush my teeth though) but if it really bothers you just get some kids and throw down on a hotie togther.

Oh and people with dreads that are forming and look "bad", never fear the tam.

All this talk about dread perms is pissing me off... I'm so sick of trendy dreadies and paid-for-"natural" fashion. BLECH.

Well, that is your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it - however, what is wrong with exploring all the ways one can get dreads? Some people just like the look, and don't want to live the "Phish tour" lifestyle to get it - does it really matter what other people do?

As far as a dreadperm Hairpolice usually charges about $275 as a guideline.

She never said it was wrong, just that she disliked it. Besides, no one will be getting dreads on tour anymore, as Phish's days of going on long tours are over. A month tops will be the way of the future....

You'll have to start referring to "Cheese Tour," sadly.

How is Trey gonna afford his coke habit if there is no more Phish tour? :D
(Just joking, please nobody take me seriously). Anyways there are plenty of dreadie Cheese kids. Possibly more then any other tour.

But honestly why do you think this is going to happen Bong420? They do appear going that route I agree. I just want to hear an opinion from a "phishhead". I must admit I would still like to see them once a year.

Obviously, I prefer Cheese and enjoy the "Cheese Tour" much more, but it will kinda suck if Phish slows down because alot of kids will jump on the cheese tour just like they did during the hiatus. That would suck, I don't want a bunch of sketchballs on tour again (not saying the phish tour is full of sketchy kids/and yes SCI does have some sketchyness as does every tour). Of course Bong420, YEUX, jeerzezfinest and any other BLer are always welcome, heh but I doubt I will ever see Bong420 at a cheese show. Anyways I'm not trying to start a band war, so hopefully nobody reads it as that.

I'm not sure this should be answered in this thread, but I guess I'll try to do it. Phish will do small tours, like the Thanksgiving and NYE runs, as well as the upcoming Las Vegas run. Other than summer tour, which will be maybe a month long, like it was last summer, that will be about it for Phish. Perhaps a Winter/Fall/Spring tour in there, but I really kind of doubt it. I'm sure there will be some solo stuff, maybe even moreso than Phish. They have families now and I'm sure they are getting sick of each other a little. You never know though. It was pretty obvious they had a blast in Miami, but I think long tours take the fun out of it now for them. And oh yeah, Trey can afford to do all the lines he wants for the rest of his life. =D

Now, I shall try to return this to dreadlocks and the desired topic of the thread. ;) It is probably pretty damn tough and discriminatory to say that either, A) more phish fans have dreadlocks or, B) more cheese fans have dreadlocks. It is a personal decision and a personal statement, and while many followers of these bands may choose to make the very same statement due to their similiar views, mentality, and likes, it is hard to say who would have more. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it was cheese. Everyone knows that cheese fans don't shower...ever :D

BACK TO THE TOUR SIDETRACK (since that's really whats important here, fuck custie dreadies! lol, sorry to offend):

I dont like phish 1/4 of what I like of the dead or cheese. This past summer was the first tour I did without my parents (old skool heads, my name is cassidy actually, lol), Phish made sense for my friend (whos been touring for years) and I to do, since there is better money on their lot and they were travelling in perfect coordination with my summer break, landing on east coast, no 2 week breaks inbetween legs, yadda yadda yadd... I like phish, but the other bands are SO much better. phishkids on lot that bow to Trey and all the "urination" (if you saw Bittersweet Motel, you know what I'm referring to), make me sick--and they have such an attitude (although, not as bad as deadlot). I dont think Phish will be doing any more big tours. When it comes to phishkids, I think most of them suck! Not as bad as the fucks on deadlot (i mean the FUCKS, not the hippies), but most of them suck. I think comparably, cheese has far more FAMILY on lot, and they have MUCH more love, and a TON more fun. I would do cheese tour in a SECOND if I had money--thats one thing, its HARD to support yourself on cheese tour if you're not selling psychedelics or brought a trust fund with you. Each band has its ups and downs, they're all DIFFERENT bands so of course they each have a separate scene.

As for the smell: yeah, I stunk a bit... but I also used Arrid XX on a regular basis (since the showers were as rare as they are out there, even though i dont think anybody needs one as often as is commonly believed). its when i'm home that i dont smell and when i dont use antipersperant, leading the NORMAL life that i lead, living in a house, with water and soap at my disposable without any sort of strings.

As for DREADLOCKS AND JAMBANDS: phish kids make more money because they sell more hard drugs and have more trusties (who of course need to look nice when they get home to mommy and daddy who paid for all their mailorders), they shower more often because they stay in hoties. cheese kids are hippies, dont really worry about being clean, dont need to impress anyone (ie: they have natural dreads, fuck a-bunch-of-perms)---they WIN THE DREADIE AWARD.

thanx for your time.

^^^ i agree with you completely. i have much_love for The Cheese. there is MUCH more of a family vibe in the SCI lots. imo its just an all around better time.
The Dead is fucking cool cuz its like, THE DEAD! but their lots blow if you ask me. :\

jerzee: you CAN support yourself on the road w/o selling drOOgs! 2 words my dear: GRILLED CHEESE!!

as for the natural vs. permed debate: if you ask me its an issue of respect. sure dread perms look better [most of the time] but its pretty lame to have soemone do most of the work for you. NO respectable hippie is gonna drop 2+ bills on their hair. and honestly, theres nothin like raising your dreadies from little tiny knappy babies, into fatty locks. in the words of my fellow dreadylocked sister: FUCK A-BUNCH-A-PERMS!!!
:)

i'll be the first to let jeezer know that i am quite stinky right now....:-[

;)

and i LIKE IT!

my hair isn't that stinky, i washed it yesterday because i colored (ie, manic paniced) a few dreadies :)=D

With all the talk of Jam Bands...I *have* to come in and represent for WSP!

ahh in 2005...its ON baby! =D

(oh and i know that people will come diss on them bc nobody loves them like i do on BL :()

btw YEUX, I'm gonna be callin on you when I decide to start dreading my hair to give me more tips! :)

Yeah, the Dead parking lot is pretty weak. That is because the only original followers of the Dead that are still going to the shows are half-dead themselves. Either way, I found the vibe at their shows this summer to be very calming and relaxed, with a few real sketched out looking people in between. Overall, pretty much like Phish or Cheese, I'd say, just 30 years older.

As far as SCI, you know what, perhaps their lot has a cooler vibe. I'm not going to disagree with that at all, just as I'm not going to disagree with it. But if you are going to all these concerts on the grounds that the parking lot before and after the concert is cooler, I think that is pretty bunk. I see Phish over Cheese because man for man, they are much better musicians, not because they have a cooler parking lot atmosphere. It is about the music, not the damn parking lot and or who has the most dreadlocks. Personally, if I could, I'd just see MMW all year long, and cut out all the bullshit alltogether. I don't think I've even ever saw a shady person at a MMW show.

--and okay, will someone please explain michael travis's new hair that he had when the started the tour in red rocks this september?

mmmmmmmmm MMW...

as for WSP, they're not too bad but its a lil country for me.

as for the music, for sure phish man for man has better musicians, when it comes to playing instruments. when it comes to writing songs, im soooooooorrry, but i can only hear about big black furry creatures from mars about once without wanting to vomit. i cant stand trey, but page is a long lost love of mine. the ALL TALENTED MUSICIAN, IMHO, is Keller Williams. My significant is all sorts of jealous of Keller--he knows I'm smitten. It's not about the parking lot, OF COURSE, buuuuuuuuut... if you're ON TOUR, thats your home, and you better be happy or else it wont matter how much you love the music. if you're just going to a show or two, it doesnt make much of a difference, but i'm not a custie--so the crowd counts. there are good people, and bad people, everywhere... but when all factors are considered, i'd rather be on dead lot 15 years ago (like i was with my parents) or on SCI today.

PS: justsomeguy-- i like my smell too, it reminds me of sex... i smell like good, healthy, clean sex. if i was someone else and me was still here, i'd do me just because my pheremones are hot.

Hey, I agree. If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy :)

I'd rather be at a dead lot 35 years ago, personally =D Perhaps I'll meet some of you folk at the lot someday...but before then, please answer my question about Travis's hair.

i was at the shows, but unfortunatly, travis's hair was all kinds of moving around with trasers coming off of it. =D
haha i dont have the slightest clue what it looked like [in "real" life]

Pure_XTC: i am a *huge* panic fan!!! you should really hit up kansas city on this bluelight tour i hear you speak of. hell, we should hit up a panic show!!!=D:)

yeux... dont most people have friends help them with their dreads anyway? its just something to help it along, like braiding it beforehand, using wax or washing it with specific shampoo to help the process.

and besides... having dreads does not make you a hippie, or having a dread perm doesnt make you any less of one. i think people are too stuck on visual generalizations.

Dreads yum...!

On some girls it just looks great, preferably ones with a pocket fulla nuggets. Than again long straight ironed blond hair on a tan beauty spinning in circles... ahh im babbling. Duex the pic of your dreads is what I would call picture perfect.

I saw an interesting thing on the boob-tube the other day this guy had a set of your typical ratty dreads and inside the ends he had snap-buttons grown into them. So he could take his dreads and snap them together to pull them out of his face, I found it different,

Tour-

Same people different bands, I prefer a Dead (if you can reasonably call it that anymore) lot, you get many more ppl that are tuned into the right channel. Phish has decent lots but I think they have went waaay down hill since around 97'. Thats when I first saw X being sold in mass, and with x you get all the cracked out crap that flows out of 'lost' kids heads usually resulting in 'negative' energy. WSP, what can I say gotta luv um, much more subdued and relaxed. SCI are not interesting to me just another repetitive band that helps the drug trade flourish across the states. I haven't been on a full tour for a handful of years and miss that life-style. In addition the music just isnt what it used to be IMO. I toured extensively with GD and Phish and love the atmosphere, I just wish they would do a club-tour and do some nice small setting venues to bring it back to basics. Fuck that 20000+ sold out shows.

Glad someone else said it. Honestly, you'd think you could remember something such as a drastic hair change by a band member. I mean, don't take offense to that, but that is just my feeling.
