Does weed really make you stupid ?

I said I don't like it when people use their own personal experience as a UNIVERSAL truth. I shared my experience but I clearly stated that's not how it affects EVERYONE.
Why yes. People do need to realize their unique experience is not omniscience.

Now, having long-memory problems is not usually associated with marijuana; that would be short-memory.

I have short-memory problems where I forget what I am doing but I do not have long-memory issues where I can't recall stored information.

It seems to me both types of memory are synonymous with intelligence, as well as seeing multiple solutions and keeping track of people, numbers, and conversations.

I do not believe intelligence (opposite of stupidity) is its own trait, but a composite of various traits. People are intelligent in different categories.

However, people somehow see memory loss, amotivation, depression, and other faults as not detracting from someone's capacity for intelligence. They would still see them as intelligent people, perhaps for their ability to express themselves well or perform complex tasks.

At one time I had an exceptional memory, and to be honest the things I forget are fairly trivial to begin with..but I still notice a difference. The loss of memory could also be the result of heavy drinking and serious opiate use..marijuana is really the least of my worries.

These days I'm completely sober and I find myself being a bit absent-minded (when I pour my son a bottle I'll sometimes put the bottle into the refrigerator and try to hand him the gallon. Ha)
Everyone assures me it's just mom-brain though. :)

I've smoked weed nearly every day for about 10 years. I have my power engineering level 2 ticket. I got high in class during high school almost every day and my final average was around 75%. My math was very good nearly 90% average and my sciences were poor i nearly flunked. The odd day I would go to class high and just get in a weird rhythm, I would get so much shit done, but that only happened once every blue moon. In junior high my average was low to mid 90's. I got accepted to a college that started doing power engineering in levels rather than the complete ticket. My first year I got my level 5. I was smoking alot before class and at breaks. My average was 55 when i passed. My next year I was worried that I wouldn't pass so I was coming to class sober(most days). My average that year was high 70's. My final year I was going to class sober nearly every day. I went into my final exam with an 82 and i passed my exam with 90%. For myself i will say it doesn't necessarily make me dumber but it made reading, remembering information and listening to the prof really difficult. I was still getting high every day after class, also getting drunk around 4-5 days a week cause why not. I smoke weed about 3-4 times a week at work and I feel I do a sufficient job. I'm a plant manager for Epcor. I make $120,000 a year, not to shabby for a pot head. Honestly as an engineer, it just helps alot to be able to go home, sit on the couch, and smoke a joint. Especially after those long days when nothing seems to get right. Anyway that was my first post on this forum.. I'm going to get smoke a joint now. haha

Mom brain. Calling your own kids the wrong name, forgetting to put food on the table, cleaning the same thing a number of times.

Dad brain. Staring at the TV, staring at the fridge, staring at female joggers in front of mom.

My brain. Puts cereal boxes in the fridge and milk in the cupboard, keys in my backpack, cell phone in the freezer.

I think it happens when we get excited about doing things. Brain is zoned on two rooms over.

nah.. its just that weed attracts so many stupid people.. "yo ima smoka niga"
smart people stay smart wether they smoke or not
stupid people.. well they are stupid anyway

i am definitely impaired when i smoke marijuana, but it seems to affect everyone differently. more than say, an upper (amphetamines, cocaine, etc.) or downer (gaba based, opiate based, etc.). it's more in line with psychedelics in this regard.

Well if he does indeed smoke the reef, that sounds like an intelligent statement.

"I am off to watch the tennis game with Stacy. I had better combust this cannabis in private. Even though I was prescribed the marijuana for my irritable bowel syndrome, by a doctor, I had better toke up first and then change into the Abercrombie & Fitch outfit she bought for me. I can't wait to show it off.", that just sounds gay. Pot makes you gay.

You think the Marijuana scheme is dirty, you gotta check out a bike bar, where narsty secks happens in public bathrooms, un-bathed bikers let themselves in, w/o asking, and get drunk way past the legal limit, in their ratchet-ass overpriced Harley bikes, way to loud. Middle-aged losers. (nothing against the middle-aged, so long as it's executed gracefully.

^ I could tolerate weed a lot better when I was younger. Go clubbing stoned, do everything normal blazed. Now I like to be home or at a friends home, qand it definitely has a few negative effects it didn't when I was younger (parries/no short term memory etc.).

Been blazing since 13 I'm now almost in my mid twenties.

When i was younger and used to drink too much, weed didnt agree with me... Id just kinda sit around like a tard or pass out for a few hours... It wasnt till i quit drinking that i really began to enjoy pot and not have much negative effect and much more pronounced positive effects also. Good weeed now makes me motivated and creative unless i use way too much and get lethargic but thats not usually a problem anymore since i learned better self control lol ;)

If I'm really high, it kills my short-term memory, so it's nearly impossible to work or play an RPG for example (remembering stuff in inventory etc.). I just forget stuff all the time. I can't do simple maths by head or remember a phone number. It also slows down my reflexes. I have trouble reading a book. However, it brings back old memories, and it greatly enhances my creativity and imagination. I like to write scenarios or compose music when really high. All my feelings are enhanced, and watching a movie becomes awesome (unless I find it crappy, then I find it extremely crappy).

When moderately high, I can work, even if I will be much slower than sober.
