Does cannabis inspire genius?

Either you are a genius with or without drugs or you aren't. Genetics are a sonofabitch aren't they?

lets not forget the benefits of an enriching and stimulating environment.

really the simple keys to staying smart are to read often, do crossword puzzles or sudoku, and avert your eyes every time the hamburger helper hand appears in a television commercial.

So does anyone here gain anything from cannabis? The reason I smoked was because I always gained something from it, mentally and physically. Albeit only temporarily.

i tend to smoke it to feel better. The one I thing i gained for sure is relaxation...and sometimes that paranoia when i first started toking...not anymore though

I smoke it mainly because it's enjoyable while not being detrimental to my physical or mental health (in moderation). I don't need a bigger reason than that.

Getting enjoyment out of an activity is gaining something.

Also, no one says it doesn't result in a change in perspective. It certainly can. That perspective just isn't always correct or rational. Not to say it isn't useful sometimes.

i've played DoTa stoned numerous times and I always seem to strategize on a higher level (like in my mind I can work out certain spell combos and shit that will destroy me or them)

sometimes I come up with these genius statements but I usually forget them in a minute

I don't think anybody doubts that you come up with awesome stuff. The thing is, usually it's because you aren't worrying about your thought process as much, not worrying about how long something is taking, not getting so frustrated and emotional. Just doing your thing, enjoying it and having fun being creative and free with it.

That doesn't make you a genius though. It just means you're high.

So what is the point of smoking if it doesn't result in a changed perspective?

I enjoy the feeling I get (relaxation, euphoria, intense pleasure) and the fact that it lowers my inhibitions while, still allowing me to function, i.e. I can carry on an intelligent conversation or play music or a video game. This here is the point of me smoking.

What I gain is the enjoyment of the company of my fellow human creatures while enjoying an activity we all share in common and enjoy. Nothing more nothing less, even when we have really deep conversations.

Not to be rude but remember cannabis is a mind altering substance.

I define genius as possessing an exceptional capacity for processing information, not necessarily the nature or extent of said information.

In that case, someone who is not a genius (e.g. average processing capacity) may be very likely to have an enriched state of mind and perception that a genius would not be capable of sober. In that case, you could say that outperforming a genius in any cognitive task would make that person comparable to the other in that respect. This is an exception due to direct chemical influence to the brain, though. It is not quite as simple as that either, I'm just meandering around my thoughts. I would be interested to hear what both would have to say if the high person reacts to bud in a performance-enhancing way (as opposed to the common effect of feeling stupid). This is all theoretical though.

But really, in short, the answer is no.

When I was able to get high I noticed I would become more sober, extremely sober, such that my thoughts and actions were unique and superior. i.e. weed had an opposite effect to alcohol, where alcohol made me less sober, weed made me more sober compared to an ordinary person. I reacted to bud in a performance-enhancing way.

The high resulted in a performance-enhancing effect in me. It had the opposite effect to alcohol. Everything that you could imagine alcohol doing to your body and mind, weed had the opposite effect. That means instead of becoming less sober and less able, I became more sober and more able. Not a lie.

marijuana makes me less funny and more stressed, so i see your point.

Yes, I'm sure your level of sobriety increases as you pump more THC into your brain. lol.

I am High right now.

IMO rappers who smoke weed, then right lyrics and rhymes and get in that 'zone' almost become 'genious'.

You'll even notice it to yourself when your listening or singing along to a song, that it sounds that much better and feels like your really connecting with the song.

Apart from that, and some insightfull thinking I think it lowers your IQ:p

Funny, I was just pondering this same thing today. If I don't smoke too much and the weed is decent I get put into this state where I'm more in touch with my emotions and more insightful. I say yes.

as for the topic question its all depending on the said definition of genius.
when i smoke and go to class, if im interested in the subject, i learn like NO ONES business, writing notes isnt even a chore, and everything becomes so clear. when i hate the class, im gone in my own world. as for other experiances? playing guitar is harder, bass is easier, lyrics and stories are easier. im guessing it has a large effect on the creative side of the brain.
