I'm currently prescribed Adderall IR (instant release) 10 milligrams, 4X's a day as needed. Due to insurance issues (and in order to help me bypass them) by doctor just prescribes me 60, 20 milligram Adderall IR tablets per-month and then I just split them in half. 10mg in as soon as I wake up, 10mg's 3-4 hours later, another 10mg's in the mid-afternoon, and the last 10 milligrams in the evening.
This dosage regiment has been working for me for quite some time now, but in the last couple months - the effects of the Adderall have really been starting to degrade. Even though I've always assumed that Amphetamine was a better ADHD medication than MDATE - I never tried Methylphenidate... until today.
I saw my doctor this morning and he suggested that I try Ritalin IR. He told me that he'd give me a month supply of both Adderall and Ritalin and let me choose which one I feel works better. So today - for the first time in two years, I didn't take my Adderall. Instead, I took Ritalin. They are 20 milligram tablets, and I can take them up to 3 times a day.
After trying Ritalin, I have to say... wow... It's not at all what I expected. I expected it to be a washed down version of Amphetamine - but the stimulation is quite different. Adderall gives you energy. You feel 'jacked-up and good to go'. But Ritalin... It feels stimulating, but in a quite different way. Adderall seems to induce complusions in me, but Ritalin is almost... stoning.
I feel quite calm and content, but with all of the same motivating and focus inducing effects of Adderall. The euphoria is nice, and so is Adderall's, but instead of a jack-up euphoria. I feel a calming sense of clarity, and motivation.
For that reason, I would say that I'm rather impressed with Ritalin. With that being said, however....
Ritalin lasts not anywhere near long enough. I can feel the onset of a comedown only a couple hours after taking it. Whereas with Adderall - it would take almost 5-6 hours for me to feel a comedown. For that reason alone - Adderall is better. But the side-effects of Ritalin are almost non-existent and that's why I'm liking it so much. Anyways, does anyone else have experience with both Adderall IR and Ritalin IR?
Is there any way to make Ritalin last longer? I know of Concerta, and Ritalin ER - but for some reason, extended release versions of both Adderall and Ritalin have little to no effect on me.
Anyways, any input is appreciated
