On the MDMA addiction issue, I don't know of a single case of MDMA addiction in the UK. Some very heavy users but no genuine addicts. We don't have any meth in the UK in pills or otherwise. I wonder if those things are connected?

Legalisation is one of those issues that I really will ramble on cos it's something I believe passionately and deeply in. I think we all know I've been heavily immersed in the drug world my entire adult life and have seen the horror of prohibition in far too much detail to not feel passionately. Like many here, knowing that government policy is directly responsible for the deaths of so many I have known and loved and ruined the lives of so many others it would be impossible not to. Prohibition is so deeply misguided it's untrue - based on nothing but ignorance, prejudice, corruption and racism. It has no place in a civilised society.

MDMA should be legailised BECAUSE the great thing about mdma is that it is not as addicitve as alcohol and the fact that Cheif ( former ) drug advisers backed up by heaps of research indicate that mdma is the 18th most dangerous drug while alcohol is at the number 5 spot.... WELL OFCOURSE it should be legalised. I should have the right to take mdma when I want. MDMA has made my life better as I do not abuse it;however, when I was younger I did not test some pills and took a dangerous couple of pills that were not mdma and had 6 months of hell as a result. I think it should be legalized for therapeutic purposes b/c then we will have safe/clean pills that are not adulterated. However, this is not without issues. Yes, while there may be more addiction, there will be less crime and cleaner pills, I believe. I think addiction needs to be solved from a greater social problem. People are already addcited to xanax and other benzos, oxycontin, soma, pain pills, etc...Why don't they just make those illegal. If there is a purpose, then why not make it available, instead of on black market? jmo

What problems are there if its only legalised for therapuetic reasons?
It still could be abused if only used for therapeutic purposes. Therapists, like doctors sometimes have habits of "overprescribing". What if a therapist gets addicted and is using with a client? ALso, E is a very interesting drug and I could see transference issues, crossing boundaries b/w therapist/client relationship-slippery slope here.

I am an MSW student and while I really think E has been shown preliminary efficacy in the use of therapy with PTSD patients (from MAPS org doing the research), it still can be a slippery slope. Therapists can abuse the drugs as well and take advantage of access. But, this shouldn't be a reason for it not to be legal for such purposes.

If one drives intoxicated then they are endangering other people and yes they should be punished. But the potential for addiciton of a substance should not have any influence on whether it should be illegal or not. People are allowed to take risks, calculated or not. People skydive knowing that their is a small chance their parachute wont deploy, or will become tangled in another skydivers chute, they will fall to their death and no longer be able to contribute anything to society. They still have every right to do it. A bullrider takes huge risks, and still are able to make that decision for themselves. An investor or a compulsive gambler has the right to gamble off their earnings and possesions, leaving them and their family in shambles, and should have every right to do so. By taking a drug one may be taking a risk, risk of addiction, risk of overdose, but taking risks isn't illegal and shouldnt be. The argument that drugs make people irresponsible unproductive members of society is also flawed, as all of the above activities can lead to one dying or becoming paralyzed thus rendering them unproductive members of society, but they still have every right to partake in those activities, and that should include drugs as well.

Just make all the addictive drugs illegal is not a realistic approach to anything. Who even cares what the reason one is taking a drug for, its your right to do whatever you please with your body. We all know that creating a black market for anything drives the price up tenfold, and people are going to become addicted to drugs regardless of the laws against them. If people are spending every dime they have on a fix and not diapers, and the grasp of addiction is simply too strong, their families are not going to benefit from mom/dad getting thrown in jail one bit. The families and the economy would benefit from drug legalization, and the reasonably priced drug fixes that would follow. Mom/dad would now be able to get their fix, and still hold down that job, still be around to take care of their children. To not steal to support their drug habits. Everybody in this scenario benefits. Take money out of the hands of dangerous criminals. Support drug legalization.

Legalizing drugs would bring remarkable positive attributes to the USA,

1. Rise in economy through tax sales made from drug purchases.

2. Less crime. Cartels and dealers would go out of business due to pure and cheaper sales from real pharm companies. Drug dealers or dealer's customers being ripped off ect ect won't be taking crime into thier hands.

3. Less tax money going into prison systems to hold non-violent drug offenders and to arrest people for drug possession.

4. Jobs created. Such as production and sales of drugs and possibly clinics for drug abuse treatments.

5. NO tax money going into the "Failed War On Drugs" which has cost US trillions of dollars.

6. Youth being unable to buy/sell drugs because they would be underage and dealing illegaly would be out of business.

7. No impurities in drugs that have caused people to die.

8. Cut the demand for guns. (cartels would no longer exist)

9. Lower spread of diseases. (needle exchange)

10. Responsible drug dosage. Meaning more information on proper drug doses, proper measurements and side effects. More ability to research drugs. Leading to less over dosing and basically more responsible, safer use of drugs.

11. Less drug usage (this is the forbidden fruit theory)... People wouldn't do them as much because they are legal....and not as fun to do since they are legal. (i would personally only do E 1-2 times a year or less)





The ONLY downside would be a small increase in use....MAYBE that is a theory. Most think it would be up for a short time then dramatically go down.

Another theory is instead of the unpure crap people DIE on, there will be pure drugs that people get strung out on and we can TREAT them!!!

But mostly the estimated increase of drug use is medeocre at best

Sure, if you do a therapy session with someone while they are on E, it may be a breakthrough.

But put those same people in the same room the next day and REMOVE the E.

I believe there will be little to no success. E is fake, and so are the synthetic feeling produced by the drug.
Sure it feels FUCKING FANTASTIC, and you can talk your heart out for hours, but i believe all the drug users who believe in a "therapeutic value" are just trying to justify their responses to a drug that feels FUCKING FANTASTIC.

get over it, some drugs just feel good. Period.

Sure meth derivatives are used for "therapeutic value", but there are certainly negative consequences that one (or the FDA) must consider before a drug is "allowed" to be put on the market for benificial usage.

Im guessing the negatives heavily outweigh the positives...

i think that it should be legalized for therapuetic reasons, as for the general public no. the reason i say this is because you wuld have a bunch or me's runing around all fucked up all the time. the school system would not do to well from the fact that people were high in class and not learning. dont get me wrong i love MDMA soo much but i thats just the way i feel. it would lose its 'magic' after a few months

i believe it should be legalized and controlled for use only in therapeutic environments under the guidance of a professional.

i say the same about lsd, psilocybin, and other psychedelics. these are dangerous compounds in the wrong hands and life-changing substances in the right hands. the same thing can be said about other prescription drugs. so it will be leaked just like other prescription drugs, so be it. at least there will be quality control and if the government really wants harm reduction then that's a win/win. however the government is like a crack addict, but it's fix is tax money, better believe they won't easily legalize these things without a big fight because then they wouldn't be able to justify such massive requests for funding for the WoD.

While I wouldn't say these substances are "safe" I think that one can evaluate the risks and take precautions when taking these drugs and expect a reasonable outcome. Why do I need people who know less about LSD than me telling me that I shouldn't take it even though they don't know why?

For about 6 months I used to do ecstasy up to 3 times a week, every weekend without fail. Now I am aware of the health issues and am just over abusing it, but if it was perfectly legal, hundreds of thousands of youths would abuse the substance like I did. Therapeudic use is a good idea, if it's being used for good under prescription, how can there be any negatives? Peace

Funny, the laws didn't stop you, did they? I think most people don't try MDMA because they don't want to, not because it's against the law.

I've always felt that MDMA, as well as the other psychedelics and entactogens, should be available to those that are deemed knowledgeable of their associated risks and therapeutic use.

To enforce this idea I've always found it most logical to require a special permit to obtain and handle these substances, requiring some sort of educational schooling and certification for the right to the permit. Obviously any abuse and/or irresponsible behavior would come with harsh fines and expulsion of their 'certifications' until they've proven themselves again worthy of using these compounds in a responsible manner.

So I suppose my opinion lies somewhere between choices one and two, although I voted choice 1 based on my beliefs on personal freedoms.

I agree with this. I think this is the most reasonable solution. I don't know about fines and all that but I think just having to take a course or having some type of consultation before one can acquire these drugs is a good idea. Also just have limits on how much one can buy in a day stuff like that.

I can believe this for sure. I know that drinking alcohol when I was a teenager was so much more appealing to me than when I actually turned 21 and could legally drink in the United States. As soon as it was legal for me I basically stopped drinking (I guess having some sort of allergy to alcohol as well also played a role, but that's not necessarily here nor there as I didn't have any specific issues when I turned 21. )

I remember that drinking alcohol was a treat when I was a teenager because all I could get was pot all the time. Sure that was fun but when your a stoner getting stoned is just normal, not necessarily a "good time". Why couldn't we get alcohol? Because it was legal and regulated. We often had a hard time finding someone over 21 to buy us booze. Thank goodness the people who sold me pot never asked. 8)

Banning drugs of all kinds has done little more than give rise to large criminal organizations and diverted valuable public funds to the enforcement of these laws.
Socialization is the way, not criminalization.

I actually didn't smoke weed until I was 18 and had already graduated from high school. Maybe it was just the people that I knew, but alcohol always seemed so much more accessible. Granted, I couldn't always get it when I wanted it, but it wasn't impossible to get.

Holy unexpected results, batman. If these are the results in this forum, wow are we a long way from looking at drugs from what I like to think is the right point of view.

Like others have said already, prohibition increases drug abuse, it does not decrease it. In every case (that I've heard of) where a drug has been legalised or decriminalised, the drug use has either stayed the same or actually decreased. Due to better education regarding said drug(s), abuse cases become far fewer. Look at the Netherlands with pot, criminal rates went down, percent of very young people using pot went down. Overall percent using stayed the same. And now it was regulated and people were well informed.

It's all about information and education. If everyone who took MDMA was well informed about what exactly is happening to their brain then they would be careful and use the drug properly and without abuse. This goes for all drugs.

Instead of bundling up drugs into an unholy bundle and burning it at the symbolic stake, we should look at each one independently; each one has it's purpose and use, it's moment and situation.

Edit: And look at this guy, b4rd: the perfect example of what is wrong about the world's general point of view on drugs. They have no idea what they are talking about, yet feel perfectly entitled to spewing their misinformation, in iturn misinforming others who will feel it's ok for them to spread that attitude around - a horrible cycle of fucking fail.
