I love the needle. Always have.
Even as a kid getting shots, I never had any fear whatsoever of needles, so it wasn't long between the time I started doing drugs that could be injected and the time I ordered some needles online, read up on the method, gave it a try, realized what a superior ROA it was, and never looked back- I got myself into it, had never even seen someone do it before.
As far as what the needle "does" to some people, I think it's bunk. It's the personality, not the ROA. While it's true that a higher percentage of people who go down the road to being a complete piece of shit destroying their lives use needles, that's a correlation issue, not a causation issue. The biggest pieces of shit I've met, that lie and steal from their friends and family, never touch the needle. The sociocultural perception of using needles also contributes to things; people who are surrendering their lives to their addiction no longer see themselves as 'better than that' and start poking- but the slide has already begun.
My only problem with the needle is the fact that almost all my veins are collapsed and I'm sure my lungs aren't too great from all the binders, but I accepted those as consequences of my decision to use, and also place some of the blame at the lack of needle exchange programs and prescription requirements that led to me re-using needles for sometimes 100+ pokes.
But overall, it's all love.
