DMT- ow, help

My last DMT trip was a bit too intense. I meditated a little bit beforehand, did it out in a sunny field, but I ended up panicking... stayed way too much in a very reductionistic mode of thought... It was very scary and I feel a little zonked.

How can I prevent this from happening again? I want to enjoy DMT to its fullest...
 
Well for starters, don't go into your next trip trying to prevent a bad experience, this will end badly. You had the right idea with your setting choice, and the meditation, but how has your mental condition been lately? In all honesty, when it comes down to it, you can do everything in your power to have a good trip, but sometimes it all goes to shit anyway. Just relax, and let come whatever may, accept each experience as unique and learn from every trip, good or bad. Sometimes my most profound moments come from the darkest trips.

I stated a thought in the other salvia/dmt thread. When we are young and walk up to the ocean we are interested. If we ran straight in deep and got completely toppled by a big wave we would be intimidated by the ocean again. We start by going in up to our knees and ride smaller waves first.

I often see doses of 50-60 mgs of DMT for a breakthrough. For me that is large if we are talking close to pure white DMT crystal. I can break through on 25-30 mgs. I am not the only one either as some seasoned partakers can too. However I often recommend 5-15 mgs in the first attempts. Sub breakthoughs ease in gently and are very much a DMT trip too. Also digest and integrate the smaller doses before trying again. Give some weeks in between. I know there are people that can go 10 times a week, but for people that are intimidated it's best to ease in, get familar and decide what doses a person likes. Slow and steady wins the race. But really, there is no race here. Even once a year is fine.

Heal and grow from this last one, then go in slow when you are ready. Even trying 5 mg the next time. Then wait some weeks after that too. Make it an ally if you are interested and that takes getting to know it, just like making new friends. Any relationship grows to a healthy level from small but attentive visits.

the best things you can do are to make sure your breathing and posture are fully conducive to the experience. Also, caffeine does not mix well at all with the substance. Finally, you must learn to turn off your thoughts while still enabling them. You must learn to view things in the moment, while not trying to turn them into words in your head. Also, sometimes you might be in a position where you are simply rushing yourself...been there as well...

i haven't done DMT yet, but i feel like i should remember this advice specifically.

what if one had DMT that was a bit yellowish? my source recommended 50 mg to breakthrough
 
from my experience, dmt that you can break through on 50mg or less is fairly rare. i usualy see mimosa extractions that end up as yellowish waxy crystal that you have to smoke globs of to break through. My advise to the OP is to just give up. by that i mean just give in, i think the panic your feeling is the primordial fight or flight instinct. the should i really be seeing this!? moment. but i think in the case of dmt there is nothing to fear but fear itself. also no need to rush to a breakthrough. smaller doses of dmt can be just as amazing in their own way!
 
Yeah this has happened to me in the past when i've smoked it under sensory deprivation, the intensity is increased tenfold without external input, and overwhelmed me immensely.

Try again i say, just because you had an uncomfortable time your first time doesnt mean it will be the same the next time.

everything you described sounds perfect for a DMT trip so i dont really know what to add.

I guess make sure yo are in a good state of mind.
And try to remember not to be overwhelmed by the sudden come up of smoked DMT.

Yep yep yep! This is a trick I've learned with practice navigating hyperspace.

There's a tendency to try to translate the experience into words in real-time, I'm guessing simply because that's human nature. We like to communicate. And you're right -- it really does throw up a brick wall.

Whenever I'm about to blast off, I always tell myself that I'm just smoking DMT to "check it out". The phrase just sort of puts me on a solid launchpad, somehow. Those words have a meditative vibe. Try it out, seriously.


LSD, on the other hand, is totally different. I talk to myself, and others, almost neurotically on that stuff -- hour long monologues, verbalizing the experience. I think it's a combination of an actual change in my verbal tendencies, and increased appreciation of language as an art in general, but my words suddenly take on a new life. I can almost see liquid gold flow from my lips -- it's a beautiful and egomaniacal experience. :D

That's pretty neat, and probably why I can breakthrough at lower amounts. Not translating into words in real time. Just let it rip. 50 mgs would have me almost completely amnesiatic (is that a word?). 25 -30 and I am completely submersed and brokenthrough.

I agree on the LSD part too, completely different. :)

Woops, didn't see Porkstock's question. Yellow is fine.

Also like Delsyd said, you never know what you are going to get. That's seems to be the scariest part of DMT. 30 mgs is either pattens and colors, or it comes on and says "sit down and I'll show you something deep". At that point we know we have to sit down and pay attention. Meditation helps us learn to be in the Now.
