DMSO and aprazolam

I was thinking earlier, If i were to use dimethyl sulfoxide and mix it with powdered aprazolam (Xanax). Would I be able to just put the dimethyl sufoxide on my arm and have the aprazolam absorb into bloodstream though my skin?
 
DMSO is way too polar to dissolve alprazolam. Maybe midazolam.

Even then, I'd have my doubts about central activity.
 
why would you want to do that? so hard to swallow this little pills?
 
No, not hard to swallow at all. I was just curious to see if it would work, and the other poster was right...it hardly dissolved at all
 
Have you tried converting it to a more soluble salt? Also what temperature was the DMSO when you tried to dissolve the alprazolam? I'm pretty curious about DMSO too. I have half a litre of the stuff so I might do some experimenting.
 
Pure alprazolam will dissolve in heated 95% ethanol and very acidic water. No idea about DMSO solubility though.
 
DMSO is aprotic and polar. I'd say there's not a chance in hell. Ethanol is a lot less polar - DMSO is aabout the same as water.
 
Ketamine is highly soluble in DMSO. I knew someone who really did consider dissolving K and putting the result into a water pistol. I disabused him of the idea - spiking people is never the right thing to do.
 
when it comes to benzodiazapines like Alprazolam they arnt water soluble but can be mixed with Vegiglycol to be able to be injected and allolwed to cross the blood brain barrier so that would be a good thing to mix with also to make it absorbable though skin aswell since thats also.

Yes, several injectable benzodiazepines are in a solution of propylene glycol. It has nothing to do with crossing the BBB. It's just getting it into a small enough volume to allow injection. The human body has 4.5-5.7L of blood and benzodiazepines are soluble enough to comfortably remain in solution.

But be warned - when injected, the effects of benzodiazepines can be totally different to when consumed orally. Most people are zonked out but there are a few where the opposite happens and sometimes when that happens, the patient has to be physically restrained which is why there are almost no circumstances where an injectable benzodiazepine would be used outside of a hospital.
