Dihydrocodeine - IV or snort?

I asked in Drug Basics if Dihydrocodeine was active by itself, and didn't need to be metabolized in the liver (unlike codeine).
The guy who answered said it was active by itself, and didn't need to be metabolized in the liver.

So, can Dihydrocodeine be snorted or IVed?
Has anybody done this?
Is there a stronger effect than orally?

Dihydrocodeine is on opiate nearly as enjoyable as hydrocodone. Why IV or snorted use not widespread?
Is it simply more efficient orally? Or is it insoluble?

[mods: can you leave this in "other drugs" and not move it to "drug basics", because I already asked this in DB and didn't get any answer]

Dihydrocodeine is active by itself, but it's still a pretty piss poor mu agonist. The majority of its in vivo activity comes from its demethylation to dihydromorphine. As such, any increase in speed of onset of action gained by routes such as snorting seems to be offset by the slower conversion to dihydromorphine.

Although the BNF (British National Formulary) lists a ampoules of dihydrocodeine for IV use (not IM), it doesn't really get used much because of what's mentioned above and also because, like codeine, dihydrocodeine is capable of causing quite a large release of histamine - this can be dangerous as it can cause problems for people with asthma and in severe cases, pulmonary oedema.

If you've got a lot of dihydrocodeine, your best bet is lots of grapefruit juice followed 30 mins later by oral dihydrocodeine.

PS (Di)hydrocodone has enough mu agonist activity without demethylation to make nasal or rectal use worth the effort

i know i posted a thread about this and it isnt off topic ... I was wondering whats the difference between Acetyldihocodeine and Dihydrocodeine ?

Yeah DHC is a great opiate....

It's easy to obtain (OTC in some countries, really easily to get a script for it in other countries, and cheap in some overseas pharmacies), it gives a good high, better and cleaner than Codeine.

If I could go back to the begining of my drug use, I would use DHC, but not move to stronger opiates... Morphine, Heroin, Methadone are so good, but bring so much problems in your life...
DHC seems so harmless in comparison.... an opiate that don't destroy your life...

acetylDihydrocodeine ? anyone?
I need advice , is it more or less potent ,etc...

also its Schedule I

Opiates don't destroy your life, you make the choice to continually use them and thus are responsible.

What I wanted to say is:
Morphine/heroin/methadone/oxy/etc... addiction is a big monkey on your back.
While DHC addiction is a squirrel on you back in comparison.

And I wished I still had the nice DHC squirrel on my back, instead of that big monkey...

Well it'll be more potent than dihydrocodeine (for comparison see morphine vs 6-O-acetylmorphine potency), but its only virtue is that it'll get the active drug across the blood brain barrier at a quicker rate, you're still essentially dealing with dihydrocodeine. Even hydrocodone isn't that powerful. To get the real jump in potency & strength, you either have to add a 14-hydroxy group (eg oxycodone) or remove the O-methyl of the 3-methoxy group (eg hydromorphone).

Most probably maximum doubling of potency from acetylating the 6-hydroxy group.

For the record, about how much stronger does grapefruit make DHC?

I don't wanna end up ODing or anything...

considering that grapefruit or other CYP2D6 inhibitors actually *decrease* conversion of codeine into morphine, does grapefruit really help the use of DHC? Normally fastandbulbous is an excellent source of info, but since this thread is almost a year old, I wonder if he still has the same ideas, or.....?

yea im not sure....i was pretty sure that GFJ did in fact decrease conversion as well with codiene, but i really cant say if its the same with DHC; i assume it should be the same.

The flavanoid in grapefruit juice isn't a 2D6 inhibitor, it's a 3A4 inhibitor (N-demethylating enzyme), so yes it does help a lot

If someone took a nodding dose with gfj, would they be at any risk of ODing/should they lower their dose, or just take their normal dose with gfj and get even more high?

i dont think it raises any pleak concentrations high enough to put anyone into a real risk of ODing just from a little enzyme help....seems it could, but would be pretty unlikely.

Cool, I just like to push the limits to get the maximum nod (i.e. 45-50mg hydro with no tolerance back when I weighed 135 lbs.), so the least bit could push me over.

Which, thinking logically, means I should cut back on my dose the first time just in case.

Which means I'm a dumbass and didn't need to ask this in the first place.
