Did Weed Did Open You Up To Trying Other Drugs?

In a way weed did because once you try it you realize how full of shit the "authority" is and since weed is illegal, you quickly run into people doing other illegal stuff.

if weed were legal then it would be different.

took me 6 year after i started smoking weed to take E' was mainly because i had been kiked out my mums and had nothing to lose, did coke about 5 month before I took my first E with an old friend.

after tht i just fell in love with them, used to work in a night club n go in rolling balls ha

i would've never tried shrooms, mdma, coke, xanax, etc. if I didnt try marijuana first and enjoy my experiences with it. I'm thankful to weed for that though because all those drugs are amazing in their own right

not for me, mj was simply the easiest to get and what my friends were keen on, the way i see it it doesn't really have any influence on what other drugs i've tried or what drugs I might try in the future.

alcohol on the other hand...

The gateway drug argument is pretty bogus if you ask me. It's not hard to also notice that most users here have also used other drugs besides marijuana, making this somewhat of a one-sided story. It's easy to say that "i would've never tried shrooms, mdma, coke, xanax, etc. if I didnt try marijuana first", but if marijuana didn't exist I'm sure we would have another drug to call a gateway.

But the truth is many marijuana smokers STAY marijuana smokers. In most other cases of drug users, even if marijuana wasn't their first drug, I think they would inevitably try other drugs as well out of curiosity.

IMO, a user who uses marijuana first is a smart user. It's generally accepted as one of the easiest and most relaxed drugs, and it can give you a very low feeling of what other drugs are capable of. Now I'm not saying marijuana can prepare you for anything, however using it as a first drug to gauge how it makes you feel is a good starting point to the inexperienced.
Someone who jumps right into IV'ing heroin before ever even trying pot would scare and worry me a lot more than someone who began with marijuana.

Nope, I wanted to try several drugs and marijuana just happened to be the first one I did try. I think if you hadn't of smoked pot you likely would of tried some other illegal substance at some point. You obviously had the mindset of wanting to try altered states of consciousness and had no apprehension about breaking the law to do so.

Na. It was my friends and my own curiosity that made me want to try other things. Bud never made me want to try other drugs...

absolutely,

the question for me is: is it in relation to chronic use of cannabis leading to interest in other substances, or just the high itself.

it definitely turned me onto psychedelics and i couldn't be happier with the outcome.

so far.

When I first started smoking weed, in 8th grade, I vowed I would never try anything more and become and "E-tard" or a druggie like most kids in my school. (LSD, Shrooms, Ecstasy; etc) But the next year I'm in highschool and started doing other drugs and stopped smoking, since then I have only done Shrooms and Ecstasy. And now I haven't done Ecstasy for 9 months and Shrooms for almost 2 years, and all I do pretty much is smoke and drink, smoking more than drinking. So, I think if I would have never smoked weed I still would've done those drugs, so I don't really think it was the weed that caused me to do those drugs as much as just my personality, and curiousness to try new things and just experiment. Sorry if this doesn't make that much sense, I'm fairly drunk right now.

I wish i never started

You must be doing the wrong drugs....

Back to the OP's question; It was actually Bodybuilding Stimulants and Nootropic Supplements that got me into trying other substances.

Other drugs opened me up to trying weed:

Oxycodone
MDMA/MDA
DXM
Nitrous Oxide
LSD
Ketamine

I avoided it for a long time due to fear of drugs tests messing with employment. Just about everything else is out of your system fast enough not to be an issue.

I was always scared by the media about weed as a kid.

I was always told that it was dangerous, and I'd turn out to be a bum!

I even recall getting pamphlets in health class with a big skull and crossbones on it stating, "The affects of Marijuana and the mind"

You know why weed is a 'Gateway' drug? because when the media scares you so damn much about it, and you finally sit down and try it...you realize it's NOTHING like what they said! You're not hallucinating, you're not falling over furniture and going crazy. No. You realize they LIED.

So that's why people turn to more harmful drugs, because, "Hey, I didn't die from da ganja bro" So maybe they're ALL not so bad as they say?

I remember being 11 and wanting to try weed so bad...so bad. I have no idea why. I never knew anyone that had anything to do with it as a kid and at the time didnt know my rents smoked, so i find it odd, but i think i had a deep desire for relaxation and a laugh and heard over the net(playing starcraft and such ya know) that that was its main effects. Never had me give a thought to any other drug whatsoever.

As far as other drugs, it was the internet(reading, this website, erowid etc) that gave me the knowledge that i could use drugs safely. Once i actually understood drugs/body/mind more(as that was also among things i read) i felt no reason to NOT try drugs out.

So i guess my point is: Intelligence was my gateway (to) drug(s).

In a way yes, and also no.

I use to be very anti-drug, around when i was 16. My friends were stoners and i hated it. After a while i sorta gave in and tried it, and realized that drugs wernt so bad.

I enjoyed the whole getting away from reality side of it. It was fun, totally different that everyday stuff. I moved onto pills, then speed, coke, ketamine, tried acid once and now im sorta experimenting with pharmacuticals.

It wasnt the ganja that got me onto the other drugs, more the fact that i enjoyed getting different feelings and trips from things you just put down your throat or nose.

No, weed wasn't my gateway. Of all the others, weed has been the least detrimental or habit-forming.

back when i first started smoking i didnt really want to do any other drug besides that cause that was the safest one. but just because i didnt want to do them didn't mean any of the rest of them didn't appeal to me. i remember sitting in a classroom in sixth grade listening to the damn dare cop talking about different types of drugs and what they make you feel like and thinking "hm, that all sounds pretty cool".

the first drug that really appealed to me was ecstasy...though with all the health risks that the dare cop was throwing at us about all these drugs made me not want to do it. not to mention i heard all the risks from my parents too.

anyway, i always got infuriated when someone said pot was a gateway drug because i was just getting into it and always thought to myself "idk why anyone would want to try any other type of drug, weed is perfect." not that weed isn't perfect...i love weed, sure i love the other drugs too, but weed is the only one without any bad side-effects really. but than i started getting really heavily into it and basically needing it just to get by and became part of my lifestyle and eventually got bored of it i guess you could say.

i first strayed off the path with xanax, than oxycontin, than ecstasy (which in the first month or two of being introduced to it i got really bad with), than shrooms, than acid, and just recently coke (hated it). oh and from whenever i started popping pills there have been many occasions where there was xanax, oxycontin (any type of muscle relaxer really), and suboxone/methadone.

i tried other drugs first, then started smokin.

now,I dont use anything else, just smoke.
