Did Weed Open You Up To Trying Other Drugs?

i would've never tried shrooms, mdma, coke, xanax, etc. if I didnt try marijuana first and enjoy my experiences with it. I'm thankful to weed for that though because all those drugs are amazing in their own right

no. i wanted to do ecstasy first. didn't do it first, but its what I wanted to and it got me interested in "drug culture"

It's not the weed itself that opened the doors to other drugs for me. It's the lifestyle that is a byproduct of weed that helped. Meeting dealers, other stoners, etc. I like most people did weed first only because its everywhere

I agree with Zzyzx, simply because its everywhere it seems to be the entry into the drug scene for many people. I hope this doesn't end up a gateway drug argument though

Also I'm not sure if you were just stoned OP but you may wanna check that title ;)

Whatever spurred me to experience marijuana was the same thing that inspired me to try other things. What that was I'm not exactly sure. Boredom was probably a big part of it though.

Not at all for me. I think I tried coke, xanax, and ecstasy first. I hate being stoned and personally cannot function at all which is strange considering how well I function and blend in on heroin.

well i wanted to do shrooms/acid but my friend told me i would have a really bad trip if i didnt experience weed first. so i tried weed... been smokin for a year still havent gotten around to shrooms/acid. so no.

I'm assuming alcohol does not count? Unfortunately, I was drunk the first time I tried weed and everything else quickly followed.

No. I drank first. The first illegal drug I wanted to do was LSD. I ended up smoking weed only because I got increasingly pissed off that I could not find acid and I was an extremely bored 16 year old in a shitty small town. Eventually I learned to love the herb itself, but I certainly don't think it made me anymore likely to do other drugs. I would have ended up doing other stuff even if weed didn't exist. It fact, I probably would have done a lot more of other (more dangerous) drugs if I didn't have ganj to placate me.

Thats like saying, because you have drinking water.

That means you must have tried Tang.

I'm pretty sure in africa, they don't have Tang, or even water suitable enough to make tang with.

My analogy being, i grew up in a small town. There was nothing except for Pot.

No Psychedelics, no drugs outside of weed and alcohol.

I moved, and suddenly there is MDMA, LSD, KETAMINE all these wonderful things around me all the time

definitely.

a lot of other variables (sensation-seeking personality, social circle, etc.), but i would say that my first experiences with marijuana had a pretty significant effect on my desire and willingness to try other substances.

of course, it wasn't until we couldn't find weed that i would try them. but by then the attitudes were already there.

it opened up the door to other drugs in the sense that i met weed dealers who also dealt other shit, and lets just say curiosity got the best of me :P

Because it is illegal it has exposed me to several other illegal drugs that my dealers have. My friends get curious because it is around and use, and that's how it starts. I don't think I would have used other illegal drugs had they not come from where my weed came from. Nothing will ever touch my love for weed, nor the amount at which I use it.

The first drug I did was Robotussin Cough Syrup only because I was a naive high schooler who wanted to get high. I was an honors student, and most of my friends were not into drugs (that I knew off). So I started with something I could purchase legally. After that I enjoyed getting high, so I moved on to try every other experience.

I think weed gave me the connections to actually try the other drugs I was already curious about. I smoke pot but don't use any other drugs regularly at all, and I don't really drink except the very occasional beer. So yeah, it opened me up to trying new drugs, but the only one I use excessively is pot anyway :)

First tried alcohol at around 13 or 14. Many people said weed was heaps better than getting drunk and however I said I didnt want to do drugs until school finished cause I was scared id become addicted and it would affect how I did in school. At around 15 or 16 I tried cannabis on my sisters birthday when I was abit drunk and really enjoyed it.

Most people I know tried cannabis because it was so easy to get and was a natural product.

From here I thought wow illicit drugs arnt as bad as they say and some of my friends started doing ecstasy pills. I was intrigued by how they described it and researched it alot and first tried it just before I turned 17.

I agree with purple cloud, weed did lead me to better connections with a bigger varieties of drugs. But most of my first experiances with other drugs were through friends who could obtain them.

Most of my curiosities in drugs come from friends telling me about there effects and me being intrigued to try them. Alot of my experimentation into drugs now is from researching it online and knowing all the positive and negative long and short term effects.

I think pot showed me that some illicit drugs are not as bad as they make them out to be and that moderation is the key.

I think it absolutely opened my eyes to other drugs. The curiosity was there from the time i first got drunk, but i still completely believed all hard drugs were terribely bad for you, that you could overdose and die any time you used them, and if you didnt then you'd become a junkie.
All except weed that is. Even at the ripe old age of 16 i knew that a few puffs will never hurt you. So i tried it. I still remember vividly my first time, i loved it straight away. This led me to wonder, if the government lied about weed being bad, maybe they lied about other drugs too. So i researched, and i discovered, and i sought out and consumed all the drugs that had intruiged me.
So as stupid as it sounds, for me, weed was without a doubt a gateway drug.

I found alcohol to be a gateway drug. I started drinking underage so it was the first illegal consumption of a drug which led to weed which led to others and others and others.

Same for me, people say weed is a "gateway drug", and at first I laughed at this. But now after trying coke, benzo's(and liquor combo, pretty much only benzos and liquor mixed), mdma, Dextro-amphetamine, and probably Ketamine (at least once), I would say yes it is. Like Zzyzx said it opens you up the culture of the drug scene.
