Did anyone else see that story on Sunday night about Xanax?

I saw the segment on Sunday Night or whatever it is called and it was TERRIBLE, I am typing one handed and would be here all night if I was to get into everything wrong with it. There was plenty of misinformation and an abundance of scare tactics and sensationalism, they didn't have one positive thing to say about it or even acknowledged that it helped anyone. I haven't come to expect any better from the media but this piece of garbage segment was brutal on xanax.

a lot of what was said was true, though, it was mainly dramatisation and scare tactics as you said, dm. it was the age' article on crack.

i was hoping to see that show tonight but i found this thing on sunrise on Xanax on the net http://au.tv.yahoo.com/sunrise/video/-/watch/29966564/deadly-addiction/
LOL! this is just obscured

the price the 'expert on the subject' gave to what 'one xanax tablet' is on the 'street' is amazing... really poor journalism all round, very typical for these news programs, let me scare the shit out of you so you watch us. pretty funny.

Not one mention of the benefits it has. and Sure it has it down sides and ppl get fucked ova by it like every other drug but lol this whole lets talk about xanax is just unnesaceraly hurting the people who actually benefit from it.

while i can fully relate to the story it was nothing new and put on by actors for the most part; yes, there was a lot of truth to it but a lot of shit also.

the story has just come at a time where benzo's have had a clamp down by doctors and to further highlight that point. most doctors do take their licenses seriously and don't go handing out narcotics like candy.

*pops another valium*

most definatly eldub, they surprised me with alot of factual information. doesnt change the fact that it was a one sided argument full of scare tactics and straight up lies. then they bring in the USA's prescription drug problems like it matters a fuck to us. $100 a pill? 30k for a bottle?!? what a load of fucking shit. straight up BAN something that has helped thousands? the story was better than i thought it would be but was still packed with straight up lies and misinformation. not one person was interviewed about how xanax stopped their panic attacks and made them live a normal life again.

had to laugh when they kept repeating that xanax is the strongest benzo available, ud think 'professionals' in that field would do a little more research...

if only i could remember i could get those same prices for my valium script then maybe i could buy even more stupid shit

Doctors need to answer to a higher authority in society for prescribing this shit willy nilly! Should be stripped of their license to practice medicine!

see, if you think this...i don't really trust that you're a good judge of what is propaganda and what isn't.
i don't watch any bullshit "journalism" from channel 7, channel 9 or any of those tabloid wankers. all sensationalist bullshit if you ask me.
it looks like you've swallowed it too, "vag hunter".

can we merge the posts from the benzo thread into here or vice versa? been alot of discussion in there so far but i didnt think it warranted a new thread

i swear, if those 4 celebrities didnt have it in their system this shit wouldnt have even been aired

fuck the sheep. xanax has helped SO many people and the people that abused it well they get abused back. fucking deal with it.

and FWIW they do have to answer to a higher authority. xanax isnt given out easily, its a last resort.

other benzos on the other hand, not too hard to acquire

Ahh I see what happened to the posts from the benzo thread now :)

And yeah I didnt think alpraz was ever easy to get? Im sure theres some docs but the majority are pretty tight with it right?

the higher authorities would already be aware of shoppers out there, having them flagged in the system already. it's rather evident almost all systems are linked together in one way or another to deter such prescribing trends and drug seeking behaviours.

Yes. I thought the article in The Age was one of the better pieces of reporting I've seen on the subject. It's an annoying disservice that those ridiculous programs do in taking something which is of genuine concern which can only be alleviated through impartial information, and reducing it to a 'scary' segment designed to invoke a knee-jerk reaction.

There are legitimate uses for powerful substances like alprazolam - or any number of other medications in different classes - and what is required is personal empowerment through transparent education on such things.

BlueLight has great potential as a vehicle for personal empowerment: disinterested (by this I mean unbiased, not apathetic) peers sharing information in order to maximise awareness and minimise harm. People need to be able to take care of themselves and be responsible for themselves so that we don't have our biochemistry compromised in the interests of pharmaceutical industry profit, or as a result of negligence of the part of authorities (government, healthcare systems).

I might be dead or locked up if I had just followed all the instructions and taken all the meds various people in powerful positions (ie. doctors) had given me.

and we're a great place for the media to rip off which is why it's prudent to keep on top of what we "say" within AusDD- yeah, let's all be friends but not exhibit ourselved. as i said in the benzo thread, you only had to read the last 1-150 or so posts and there's the "script" todaytonight used for their story. i've tamed down considerably over my time here; you notice these ebbs and flows once you've been around a while.

my tourettes was playing up and it really did get a knee jerk reaction from me. i laughed, i cried, it took me through the spectrum of emotions any soapy would :P

aye, me to, but it goes the other way as well. i'm still alive and breathing because of the various doctors instructions i'm having to follow and medications i'm having to take.

Not sure what sort of job "socialite" is but there is no way just taking alpraz did that to her. If it is such a huge problem here why did they have to go to the US to find stories, and that was someone who took too much and ran someone down. May as well do a drink driving story, only with sympathy for the driver because the evil booze made her do it.

That kid who seemed to like his alpraz, made a comment that 'he never sells it' but could get $2 -3 a tab, which made made those ridiculous US figures even more stupid. It was also reckless to make him go cold turkey to see what would happen to him, a shame he didn't have a seizure for the camera.

you really bought that guys' act? he was "fiending" (or psychotic, take your pick) not in torturous benzo withdrawals.
