Diazepam, Atenolol and Lyrica = Bombed Speech

So I had a 20 minute presentation today. I hate public speaking, as I get nervous, my voice fluctuates between a high and low pitch, and I blush and get the shakes. So I thought I'd need the help of pharmaceuticals. 90 minutes prior to the speech I took 150mg of Lyrica. Half-and-hour prior I downed 50mg of atenolol and 100mg diazepam. Now one would think this work, right? Wrong. I bumbbled and stummbled all over that speech. I forgot shit and I blushed and got the hand tremors... so much for the beta blockers! Anyway, I still have 2 more speeches to give. What OTHER drugs are there?

100mg diazepam alone is a pretty hefty dose. I have an alprazolam scrip and if I remember my benzo equivalence correctly, 1 mg alprazolam = 10mg diazepam, so that would be like me taking 5 bars - not to even mention the others. I'm decently benzo tolerant and 4mg alprazolam would be my limit of what I could take and still be capable of giving a coherent speech. Maybe 50mg diazepam since it's slower acting.

The only circumstances under which I'd take the drug combo you just listed is if I was at home and severely bored/angsty and would want to get fucked up and then go to sleep. I don't mean to sound like I'm lecturing you because I've done more dangerous combos than that, but why did you even think you needed the other two drugs when you had a benzo? How benzo tolerant are you anyway?

Next time, try taking the diazepam four hours before speaking.
It's not really "so much for beta blockers", it's a matter of a person realizing they're speaking in public and too stoned to do it properly. That can make anyone nervous and while the drugs you took help you relax, none of them will do shit to help you focus.

If I were in your place I'd honestly rather have a stimulant before the speech, for confidence and focus, and take the benzo when I was home after to come down nicely.

Man i am sorry but the idea of taking something to calm your nerves then getting to high and being a babbling moron, i am very sorry it happened to you but the idea of it makes me laugh. I often thought about taking something to help me with the nervousness but thats why i never did, too worried about standing there going "umm uhh" and wandering off.

Yeah definitely lower the dose if your going to do that. Very sorry you went through that yourself though.

No, one would not think that would work. One would think that would induce a temporary coma. Why would you take so many downers before speaking publicly? Best way to look like a fool really. At most i'd suggest 5-10mg diazepam for public speech jitters.
