Television Dexter

:(

The new season apparently doesn't start until September 30th. Man. I don't know why, but I thought it ran in the Spring and Fall like some other shows. Damn.

:(

Also I found this cool interview with Micheal C Hall talking about Dexter ..

As series six of Dexter begins on FX HD on Friday, Michael C Hall discusses musicals, guest stars and playing God...

Does Dexter’s brush with religion in the new series bring out his spiritual side?
"If there’s a God in Dexter’s world, I suppose it’s arguably Harry or the code or Dexter himself, taking God’s work into his own hands in as much as he’s ending people’s lives. A broader sense of what God might be isn’t something he has faced until now."

The Doomsday Killers and Brother Sam represent a pretty broad spectrum of faith, don’t they?
"There’s a very negative manifestation of religious states, with these killers who are basing their heinous acts on scripture, and then we see Dexter enter into as authentic a friendship as he’s ever had with Brother Sam, who has been rehabilitated through the redemptive power of faith. So you see the shadow and the light side."

Have you been surprised by what’s happened in Dexter’s life over the course of five series?
"When we were shooting the first series, I didn’t foresee him having sex, let alone getting married or having a child or having some sort of relationship in which he invited other people into the kill room. I didn’t imagine Rita’s death or those kinds of ramifications."

What do you think has been the most significant change in him?
"He has experienced a genuine sense of connection to his son, who wasn’t in the world at the beginning of the show. The biggest change has been that he’s seen his behaviour affecting more than just him. It’s resulted in the death of Rita, the things his son has witnessed, and a lot of confusion for his sister. His claim that he is without a capacity for humanity has kind of been blown out of the water."

Would you like to appear in a show that doesn’t revolve around death?
"Actually, it’s in my mission statement as an actor that I must always be surrounded by dead bodies! Seriously though, yes, I’d love to do a comedy where nobody died."

What about getting back to the singing and dancing of your Broadway career?
"I would love to find a chance to do that again, but I’m not sad that Dexter hasn’t gotten the chance to showcase it. I don’t think it’s quite the proper vehicle, and I doubt we’re going to see a musical episode of this show."

Do you worry that people will think of you as Dexter for the rest of your career?
"I’m aware that there’s an inevitable residue of Dexter that will be on me. But at the same time, when Six Feet Under was on everybody thought I was a gay funeral director. I guess David Fisher was Dexter’s first victim."

Some great guest stars have been bumped off by Dexter over the years. Do actors ever sidle up to you and say: ‘I’d make a great serial killer...’
"That has happened, and I’ve been amazed by some of the people who have said it, though usually it’s after a few drinks at a party. The calibre and variety of actors we’re able to get to take part in our crazy little world is a real shot in the arm."

With a seventh and eighth series in the pipeline, how do you see things panning out?
"I think once again I’ll be challenged to incorporate some very new and powerful dynamics into Dexter’s world. To be honest, it’s difficult for me to foresee an entirely happy ending for the character.

The season premiere tonight was one of the very best episodes of the entire series, IMO.

NSFW:
In many ways, I feel the climax culminated the series, as it's a plot point that's never really gone away that you know had to come out sometime.

Beli, I came inhere to say the exact same thing, but I feared I was perhaps a bit too excited about it. An absolutely riveting season premiere, imo.

And, Deb's hair looks amazing, btw.

Yeah brilliant premiere. At first I was like :o, but then I was like phewwww, but then I was like :O!!!

I'm thinking Dexter might just find its redemption. Last couple seasons have been real weak, but this episode was the best I've seen in years. I'm glad to see it's coming back, and hope it continues. I agree that this was the plot point that needed to happen in order to kick start the series again.

I would quite like it if we got to saw Dexter go through a trial, or possibly go on the run. Him moving to another country and continuing to behave the way he does would refresh the show nicely.

Even though they so obviously shoot in LA, which pisses me off endlessly, the city is a part of the story or perhaps a character in the show. Dexter wouldn't be Dexter if not for Miami.

It's raw and we are finally understanding exactly what Dexter goes through with every kill- what drives him.

His internal struggle had me glued to the tv tonight.

Deb is showing serious depth as a character with every season, especially in this and the past season. And this Lewis character? He's a wild card.

Given I haven't read the books or anything and don't know how much the show follows them. But does anyone else think deb and dexter may hook up @ all? End of last season, they made it seem like she may have romantic feelings for him and he has now spilled his guts to her.
Just a thought...

I think the show's writiers will string us along for quite awhile (probably just 'til the end of this season but perhaps a bit longer) as far as the Deb/Dexter love emotions go. Because, face it: Sibling love, even adopted silbing love, is a huge no-no in some places. So even though it's ficticious and even though they're not related, Dexter would probably turn amny viewers away d/t the whole "gross out" factor. IDK, just my two cents. /another addi ramble

Oh, I'm sure they'll string us along.. Hell, maybe won't even happen now. That was b4 dex spilled his guts I suppose. Then again, after sundays episode, they kind of leave it open.. Probably won't even talk about it this season, because debs shrink sessions haven't shown up this season @ all..

I'm excited to see where the show goes this year though. That bull outfit dude wore, was pretty sick. :)
