YULEE, Fla. — A Nassau County deputy who shot and killed an unarmed suspect during a traffic stop in September has been transferred off the streets.

Sheriff Tommy Seagraves said Ernest Cole's transfer is not a promotion but a lateral transfer.

Seagraves said there have been Internet threats made against Cole.

While Cole was cleared of criminal wrong-doing in the shooting of 39-year-old Franklin "Ray" Bodden, the Nassau County Sheriff's Office is conducting its own internal investigation to see if Cole violated any department policies.

Bodden was shot and killed by Cole after he thought Bodden, who was unarmed, was reaching for a weapon, Cole said.

A state attorney's office report released last week said Bodden died after Cole mistook a rolled up bag of marijuana for a gun.

That's so horrible. Another pointless and preventable death caused by the drug war. :(

Fuck your training, if i was a cop i would shoot to immobilize not shoot to kill in situations like this. and how the hell does a bag of pot come off as silver and shiny. this officer clearly was not trained well. A sad day for cannabis indeed. I have been to a shooting range that conducts firearms evaluations for police officers, and the range officers joke about how poorly the vast majority of police officers actually know how to shoot. That really made me feel safe...

I just don't see how in the hell a rolled up bag of weeds look like a gun!!!!8o:X:!

Cops should not have guns.

^ There are plenty of situations where a cop haveing a gun is a good thing but this shit sickens me.

I pray they find that he violated some policies. The family should try to sue him. I really hope the worst for that cop in life and that it's long and full of misery.

do people really not realize marijuana PROHIBITION has killed more people than marijuana itself, or do they just willfully ignore this fact?

They already cleared him of criminal wrongdoing, so the most he'll get is being slapped to a desk-job.
