YULEE, Fla. — A Nassau County deputy who shot and killed an unarmed suspect during a traffic stop in September has been transferred off the streets.
Sheriff Tommy Seagraves said Ernest Cole's transfer is not a promotion but a lateral transfer.
Seagraves said there have been Internet threats made against Cole.
While Cole was cleared of criminal wrong-doing in the shooting of 39-year-old Franklin "Ray" Bodden, the Nassau County Sheriff's Office is conducting its own internal investigation to see if Cole violated any department policies.
Bodden was shot and killed by Cole after he thought Bodden, who was unarmed, was reaching for a weapon, Cole said.

A state attorney's office report released last week said Bodden died after Cole mistook a rolled up bag of marijuana for a gun.
