Okay so we all know sleep deprivation can cause a little eye irritation an hence bloodshot eyes.
However, any time I've stayed up overnight (without amps) and have bloodshot eyes a drop or two of Visine (oxymetazoline) takes it right out.
How come when I stay up all night on amphetamines Visine suddenly stops working altogether?
No matter which type of vasocinstrictor I try (oxymetazoline, tetrahydrazoline, imidazoline, etc.), NONE of them make a dent in the "demon eyes" I get after a long night on amps.
Physiologically speaking, is it possible the andrenergic (sp?) effects of amphetamines counteract the pharmacology of OTC redness relievers?
On one occasion especially - a family dinner - my eyes were more blood than white, yet MULTIPLE different eye drops with the above listed ingredients failed to do anything to reduce the redness.
I never stay up for more than one night in a row on amps as a rule, since I know the toll it takes on the body and brain. I rarely (if ever) binge on my Adderall script.
I've been at parties before after a long night of cramming for exams and had multiple people ask me if I was stoned simply because my eyes were so bloodshot.
I found that corticosteroid gel meant for ophthalmic use (dexmethasone specifically) works, but only for a few hours. And they make my eyes extremely greasy and blur my vision.
Even after I've come down and pupil dilation is no longer present, the redness persists and remains untreatable with OTC remedies.
Is this a common occurrence with amphetamine use?
Or is it just something curious my body does physiologically speaking?
