Just some more notes on the citric acid solution (NPI): I've tried several different modes of using CA to help make the active oxy more soluble as it sits in your mouth, and some things work better than others. For any doubters, try this: pop an OP in your mouth and suck on it until you reach the first layer of gel (less than 5mins.). Then, sprinkle a small mound of citric acid/sugar mix onto your tongue (1/2-1 tsp) and move the OP pill into the hollow of your tongue where the citric acid/sugar mix is sitting, so that the OP pill is surrounded by & covered in citric acid. Now, either go watch the result in a mirror, or you can just *feel* it happening; the citric acid mixmelts away the gel layer almost immediately, releasing a burst of delicious pure oxy bitterness onto your tongue. Doing this, I've reduced the time it takes an OP to melt completely away, from 90 minutes (just sucking on it, no citric acid) to about 30 minutes. I also continue to find these new OPs stronger than the old OCs, when melted on the tongue this way. After the little "bowl" of citric acid you've held on your tongue melts away the gel layer, you just move the newly hard pill back under your tongue or tucked into your cheek, and wait until the next gel layer appears, and repeat. Technically, I suspect it's not really layered, per se, but that one's saliva transforms the hard gel to a soft, mushy gel over time, so it feel like you are reaching layer after layer of gel.
Couple more hints: A) I was getting really tired of eating SPKs, so I went to my nearest large supermarket, hit up the bulk candy section, found all the sour gummi candies and filled a bag with a few pieces of candy and a ton of the citric acid/sugar mix that drifts in huge piles in the bottom of the plastic bins. I am now the proud owner of a plastic bag full of a perfect citric acid/sugar, so I can use as much as I want without having to actually chew through gummi candy to get the same result. and B) this was another accidental discovery: I had just popped an OP in my mouth the other night when I decided I wanted to eat dinner and didn't want to wait 60 minutes for the pill to dissolve (this was before I began "melting" the gel layer with pure citric acid/sugar powder, so it was still taking longer)...I had had the pill in my mouth for about 10 minutes, and had about just reached the first really goopy gel layer when I spit the pill back into an empty rx bottle to finish after I ate. Well, about an hour later, I went to retrieve the pill out of the bottle, and noticed that it had grown and swelled to about 50% again the original size. I popped it in my mouth and found that all the hard layers were gone, and the pill was just a flat disk of floppy gel. It melted in my mouth very quickly. I really wonder whether anyone at Purdue tested good old fashioned human saliva as a solvent.
Lastly, I've found that despite my initial hatred of these OPs, I'm having an unexpected mixture of Pavlovian/Stockhom Syndrome reaction to them now: a couple days ago I was 'scripted some roxicodones and was SO happy and relieved/excited that I would no longer have to rely solely on the OPs, but to my shock, I actually really miss the ritual of melting the OPs in my mouth...somehow now that I am getting easily 95% of the oxy, eating the OPs seems sort of...sensual and luxurious, like taking a long bubble bath where the longer you stay in, the warmer and more beautiful and soft everything seems. I've even gotten over my initial loathing of the gel, now that the citric acid reliably dissolves it immediately. This morning, I actually chose to take a couple of 30 mg. OPs instead of my Roxies. I tend to wake up very early and read in bed while the sun comes up, anywhere from 30-60 minutes, and there's something really lovely about letting the OP gently melt in my mouth as I prepare to get out of bed and start my day. The effects of the pill build gently but noticeably, so that by the time I am ready to get out of bed, I feel all warm and muzzy-happy.
