I probably would but I'm not paid and trained not to - the police are.

If it turns out the police did tazer him and that's what caused his death then he's only got himself to blame. After all he was the one going around blasting folk and threatning to kill everyone. Might not be standard practice to tazer someone with a shotgun pointed at their head and a finger on the trigger but personally I wouldn't hold too much of a grude against the police for it, they were in pretty real danger and the bloke was a nutter who wanted to kill cops.

He could have turned the shotgun round at any time. They clearly are better than him because they're going out, at their own risk, and dealing with psychos with shotguns who want to kill the public / police, he's just a nutter with a gun who likes to shoot innocent folk. Raul Moat wasn't innocent, if he died via being tazered then it's fair enough because he started all this shit, he was the one running about with guns blasting innocents.

I don't understand how anyone can stick up for the bloke after what he did.

Tasering someone when it's not necessary is a terrible thing, but i agree a lot less terrible than shooting some police officer in cold blood.

If i was a police officer in that situation i might also want to cause the guy a little pain. However, i would not do this, because it would be illegal and against the whole point of being a police officer.

A bit like how if i saw an old lady with £1000 sticking out her purse when i was really poor i might be tempted to rob her, if only briefly tempted, but still wouldn't do it

Has fuck all to do with what anyone does for a living - deliberately killing somebody is deliberately killing somebody. Yes he could've turned the gun round and pointed it at someone at any point. So why wait six hours during which time he hadn't then decide "fuck it"?

A rubber bullet probably would have been a better option though.

Yup. Might've been. Might not. If the first one was accidental I could even see how it would have caused the other one to join in - reflex kinda thing. Kinda odd that only two were so twitchy but fairly understandable given the circumstance. My point was that it (and any incident were police are involved in somebody's death) should be properly investigated. Police investigating other police tends to be a bit of a foregone conclusion

I can't help feeling that if i had time to set up a bunch of armed police around someone about to shoot themselves i'd have some kind of precision sniper poised to shoot them in the arm or something.

Maybe i've been playing too much Call of Duty though?

As soon as that message was relayed by radio to the senior commander at the scene, all the officers knew what was likely to happen next – and immediately the snatch squad was ordered into action.
