DEA Promises to Continue Drug War and Ignore Voter Decisions in Colorado & Washington

So they are going to waste all that man power, time, and money shutting down mom and pop shops instead of protecting our borders from drugs that support the cartel. Nice to see my tax dollars going to good use.

State police by law have to enforce FEDERAL law.

Enroll in a logic course or watch COPS sometime.

Lol easy now. I know you weren't talking to me but I've been arrested and I have state police in my family. I know the law a little bit but this whole against state law still federally illegal is a little illogical.
I think what the staties persue is still going to be an allocation of resources type of policy... If they aren't taking something through a state court, then they aren't going to waste the time sending it through to federal court if its not worthy of a fed case.

I've been sayin' it for years now; it's gonna take a revolution to change the way recreational drugs are governed. I see this as an optimistic start. Hopefully other states will follow suit. My expectation is that "The Bible Belt" will undoubtedly remain opposed the longest to this new way of logical thinking.

On the subtopic of Obama - I know that for many peeps, he's probably been a big disappointment. That being said, perhaps the best is yet to come. Now that he's been re-elected for a 2nd term, it may be (I hope) that this is his time to really deliver on many controversial campaign promises regarding marijuana in general. I hope he takes this 2nd term to attempt to spread the message into all four corners of America, that after one trillion dollars wasted over 40 years, the war on drugs has been a colossal failure. More tragic yet, are the lives that have been ruined because of time behind bars and/or innocent bystanders who have been killed due to drug trade fueled gangland wars.

I wonder if this term Obama may back up the stoners a little more since he is not going to be running for reelection which means he doesn't have to worry about loosing the vote from the conservatives sitting on the fence.

Do you think this is acceptable behavior of an politican that cares about said "stoners", or cannabis users, to fuck them over the first four years for political re-election reasons?

To me that shows he cares more about getting re-elected than what he says he stands for, standard run of the mill shithead politican stuff if you ask me. Nothing to be proud of, and to be honest, as a cannabis user, i would just feel resentment towards him if he "eased up on the stoners". If he really cared, he would have manned up and done so regardless of the blowback. I can't respect a man that puts political drama before policy and the people that vote for him.

democrat politicians have been just as bad(and some cases worse) when it comes to the drug war. theres really no reason to believe that obama will be the first to break the norm

How long can this drug war last, seriously? The day will come, and it will, it is inevitable, all drugs will be legal. Just like women's rights after both the world wars were improved, just like the freedom of blacks and just like any other law that is basically backward and conservative will find a day when it is reversed. Have a look at aspects of history and you will see that evolution is what happens, and evolution means - the reversal of these laws. If it is there to be removed it will be sooner or later. Maybe not now, maybe not in even 200years, BUT THE DAY WILL COME.

I don't think Obama has much power over his DoJ. I believe he was oblivious to Fast & Furious and I believe the US Attorneys in California and Colorado were acting independently.

I mean, look at what his FBI was doing to his CIA (Patreus) and Secret Service (Colombia). I think these agencies operate autonomously, for the most part. I also surmise that they would JFK him if they were exceptionally motivated to.

Unfortunately those agencies answer to Obama, he shouldn't be a lame-duck. He is supposed to be a Commander in Chief of Federal agency.

No I do not think it is acceptable but everyone does it. That is just the way politics works. It is about sacrificing your principles for the vote. I voted for Obama because he was a better choice that Romney and isn't some religious nitbag that doesn't understand the meaning of separation of church and state.

^^ and romney wasn't the only other choice on the ballot. Not that that DB should have gotten any votes anyway. It may be the way politics work, but not all politicans are like that. Just the ones everyone chooses to vote for, or are told to vote for more likely.

And i don't buy into that "he wouldl've been JFK'd if he tried to legalize/decriminalize cannabis". Cognitive dissonance anyone?

I agree that he shouldn't be lazy, but is he really in control of every agency in his administration? NYTimes (not just some conspiracy rag):

When I was in the Navy there were a ton of officers that explicitly rejected and even rebuffed the leadership of a democrat. I suspect many of them would do whatever they could to oppose him.

All I'm saying is, this issue is more complex than just "Obama betrayed us"
