Dancing between styles. How do find yourself?

So what your saying Bass, is that you dance so out of time to music that music with no beat would make no difference anyway? Right....? Or did I just read that wrong

ahhh dancing to dnb, first thing you need to remember is you love dnb, you're half way there already. Dont let other people intimidate you, dnb dancers who have the hang of it sometimes look way to 'cool', and you just sit back thinking 'errr, i dont think i can do that' maybe start in a dark corner until you become more confident. feel the music. i like to hang low, yeah bend my knees a little, and do what Ruski, Sarsen and i refer to as the "crab dance" we will have to show you one day =)

I snort, therefore i am.

If there is a beat I will find it.. a plonk my damned feet to every damned beat

Sarsen can confer..
and dnb sparing .. that is .. dancing as tho u were dancing against each other.. is simply wikid.. atomic & Asymetry can vouch for this..
any dancing style can be adapted 2 as long as you can hear the music your listening too.. ie.. people who think dnb is a bunch of noise obviously haven't learn the fine art of picking up the simply awesome breaks and going totally mental
wink.gif
i guess thats more jungle.. but whatever it is.. there will be dancing
smile.gif

but let me just add.. some techno is just 2 damned slow and boring and gives you no credit when you wanna dance real hard
smile.gif
Be creative.. 3 samples in a track for 5-6minutes is just god damned monotonous!
give me hh/hardcore/gabber ne day.. bounce bounce bounce.. bam bam bam .. bounce bounce bounce.. bam bam bam....

Phwaaor... i wish i could dance like you's, i try but i just can't get the handle of n e of "shufflin" or "bouncin"

!!!
wateva style of music... i LOVE to do erotic table top dancin'... betta if i got a biatch 2 play wif! Lotsa raunchy hip swings and bodies rollin' everywhere... mmm looks so sensuous!!! LUVVIT!
goes great wif all the chillout music!

the first time i went to a d'n'b party was "movement" in london (just thought id piss you all off there hehe) and i couldnt really dance to much at all back then, i asked my friend how i should try and dance and he just said "listen to the music and just run on the spot. the rest will come later"
he was right, a few hrs into the night and all us novices were just kinda running on the spot with a few variations and having a great time, it probably looked kinda funny but that does't matter, if you're havin a good time and not offending anyone thats all that matters.
i think of it like this - the fast music (hh/hardcore/hard house/nrg etc) is made for small quick energetic movements or shuffles, while the slower music (prog trance for example) is better for a slower dancing style where you've got more time between beats to do stuff.. does that make sense??

I dance best when i'm swinging balls of fire around my body!
smile.gif

Strangely enough, I dance the same way when I'm not firedancing. The fire does make it look a bit more interesting however!
Isn't it just a matter of allowing your body to feel the rhythm of the music, whatever the genre. Works for me. Sometimes I think we worry a bit too much about what other people think of us.

I think the shuffle is really kewl and once u have the hang of it ... u can dance to almost any kind of music with it. u can just make it slower or faster but there will be variations for diff genre of music.
I used to play this game - It's called "what is he/she on?"

It does make a difference as well.

Raving goes beyond what words can Express!

If you have a natural feel for rhythm and and can pick up any beat - you should have no trouble with dancing - to any style.
But even if you can't, just dance around like an absolute etard and entertain every1 else - who cares what ppl think - as long as you're having an awesome time!

I agree with Finn and Rococco. It's not about caring how you look when you dance. Shit, if I cared how I looked i wouldn't dance the way I do. It's not about how you look but in my case it's about conditioning.
It seems i am programmed and it's really giving me the shits, but from these responses it sounds possible so I'd better get back to work!!

I'm lost. I've gone to look for me. Should I return before I get back, tell me to wait.

Here I was thinking I was the only person who had to practise my shuffle.. Here's your chance to laugh at me tho. I always practice my shuffle with my old ballet slippers on, cos that way i don't wreck the carpet in front of my mirror too bad... The other thing is that I actually feel dumber at home than I ever have on the dancefloor of a club/party. Go figure eh, but it is very true that you're your worst critic. Just relax and have a good nite, however you end up dancing!!

if you found out you were dreaming, would you want to wake up?
Please don't interrupt me. That last sentence took a lot of effort to think of and now I have to think of another one.

I havn't found a type of music to which the melbourne shuffle cannot be adapted (tho I havn't really danced much to d'n'b...)
But yeah, it's much more interested to mix up the styles a little rather than just sticking to the same old thing...

never considered myself much of a dancer but i just let the music tell me what to do. i spend most of my time at sublime on the voodoo floor. i like drum & bass, and i CAN dance to it, but only when i'm really speedy. then it feels like 'oh my god is it physically possible for my body to move any faster!'

well the way i dance, is generally never the same, i vary from bounce to shuffle to stomp
and when im dancing to breaks, ill even throw a few funky RnB moves and my george michael rip off hehee.
anything faster then 140, ill bounce and stomp too
to happy hard, i bounce, and i dare, id bounce the fuck out of anyone

when dancing to d'n'b: half-time!, 'cos it's kinda fast. you basically need to get out there on the dancefloor and throw yourself into it. get into the groove. I find it harder dancing to trance/techno ever since I started getting into d'n'b because it doesn't have that ~groove~, it's not really funky enough. learning to dance to d'n'b is like riding a bike -- once you learn how, you'll never forget
smile.gif

yeah... d n'b... too farken fast...
if i try to keep up with it i just end up running on the spot (cant shuffle proper: shoes too grippy/too unco/havent been taught proper) and if i do half time i end up standing on the spot waving my arms about like a freakin hippy.
but apart from that i can dance to most music... def. got to work on the shuffle tho, stomping is tiring.
