Crusties v Cops

I love the British police as they are decent and fair unlike the scum we have in Sweden.

What I don't get from this thread is why not the small local shop open up after Tesco has killed all the competition and hiked the prices again?
Surely it most be beneficial after Tesco has killed off all other locals and aren't even competing on prices? Also you'd get all the hippies from this thread shopping there.

This bollox about "our community" and not wanting externals in just make you sound like BNP voters or something except you're talking about shops instead of foreigners.

I love Tesco myself and I got a load of mates that work there, also I'd doubt my missus would be able to get her Polish food in the local shops?

your misses would be able to get polish food and more from local shops just a stones throw from the new tesco (that is still boarded up) there is dedicated polish shop, lots of afro caribean shops. local shops stocking nice selection of foreign beers etc too.

dun no bout bristol, polski sklep bluku bluku

2 polish shops within a 5 minute walk, tesco is genuinely not needed or wanted.
as for the BNP comparison get a grip, it's people trying to preserve an independent, multicultural area

Ho ho ho. Ian Tomlinson for one might beg to differ.

Yeah, because re-opening, with all the costs involved, is a piece of piss when you're bankrupt eh?

PLUS - Tesco are well known for buying up areas of land around their shops directly in order to stop the oppostion from coming back and threatening them. Tescos property portfolio is massive. Loads of unused land in towns these days actually belongs to Tesco.

Don't talk crap. There's a world of difference between discriminating because of skin colour and supporting local business (most of which in this case is from a multicultural background) against the tyranny of corporatism and monopoly. Get some perspective ffs.

thata analogy would work, if you were trying to fit the entire population of china into luxemborg or something.

as for why the small local shops don't open after tesco has already driven them out of business, the owners will all be saddled with debt management plans by that point, making it impossible to get credit for a new business. they can't just shut down in the interim and lose their livelihood. plus for the tesco lovers out there, there's one 2 mins away on the other side of jamaica st (look at a map and now you'll see just how ridiculous the new tesco is).

30 arrests in total. Still a very heavy police presence on Stokes Croft.

foudn this totally ironic when i was still there- on the way to the duke of york from stokes croft we saw some young gentlemen threatening each other with knives. had they ended up in need of a copper they'd prob be way too late cos of this bullshit.

my mates told me tesco have coincidentally donated a large sum to a southwest police something or other. i really prefer fry and laurie's private police.

indeed. but the duke is on the frontline in st pauls just up the road from me. its a place notorious for dealing stabbing and murders. there are often police flying about there..or they tend to keep the hell out of yardie gang stuff.

not unless they re occupied it there are some videos a few pages back of the eviction taken from what was a live stream at the time

they had a guy up on the roof threatening them saying he would throw petrol bombs at them and attacking them with what looked like a pole *the pole was used in a way we couldnt understand due to the language barrier being a riot shield held by the cops lol

.. the live stream showed you the guy getting arrested but the video only shows you him shouting about the petrol bombs, i cant remember if you see him attacking with the pole or not

They sealed up the squat once the guy was arrested but i guess they could get back in if they really wanted to

I should have clarified that I wasn't talking about Bristol and that I know zero about the area in question I was talking about where i used to live where the only place to get the Polish stuff was Tesco and other supermarkets, the local shops were all asian owned and had a lot of asian foods.

Ian Tomlison? Smiley Culture would have been a bit more of a recent example of a victim of police brutality.
Of course I don't claim all police to be good but the average copper is from my experience is a lot better than the average copper in any other country I've lived in.
Got loads of mates from Bradford who tells me stories from the riots there and I've heard some pretty nasty things about the local coppers.

But the average police is absolute scum in sweden, if anyone is interested I could start a separate thread about it as it's very off topic(maybe Police brutality in your country or something?)

Obviously the BNP comparison was a bit flawed but whenever I hear someone use terms like "local people" and "our community" I become a bit agitated.

it's like anti bnp though, trying to stop homogenisation rather than encourage it

Are people still squatting in telepathic heights?

No, it's been boarded up. Was sat on the steps last night when we were on a late night wander, drinking Newcy Brown and just watching the 4am world go by. But it's totally boarded up now.

I saw one of the lads remove his speakers and personal stuff supervised by men in suits and police the other day.

It's a shame, as Telepathic Heights is one of the most Iconic buildings in that area, with some good graff artists who have spent time painting it up.

That's what cops did to some bloke in Brussels with a batton who was on his way to a concert.

Few weeks earlier traffic division beat someone up, breaking a few ribs in the process, who was complaining that they positioned their mobile speed camera car on his private property.

Police complaints (com. P)my arse
