It has now been 11 years since my ordeal with the St.Kilda Police station's Undercover Narcotics Unit who made my life a living hell at rave party's. I haven't spoken publicly about this as yet but I now feel safe enough to speak out about the events that took place.

In the year of 1994, I discovered the wonderful world of raves in Melbourne and it wasn't long before I was lost in the magic of drugs. I made a lot of friends at these rave's, some of them becoming my best mates whilst others had me mixed up with law enforcement and thrown into a world I never knew existed...

His name was Steven and shortly after meeting him at a rave party we began to help each other hook up with party supplies, one day he rang me unexpectedly stating that he was moving flat and needed to sell his dvd collection for some quick cash, having a stable job at the time I accepted and went over to buy what was over 100 original dvd's. A few days later I got a call from the St. Kilda Police station asking me if I had bought stolen goods recently and who I had bought them off, I explained to the sergeant I had no idea the DVD's were stolen and gave the address of Steven as the culprit. I was asked to come down to the St. Kilda police station and give back the goods along with a statement. The first thing I found odd I noticed was the Sergeant I spoke to was the head of the Narcotics Unit and he began to question me where I met Steven and how often I attended rave party's, the sergeant also informed me Steven was a junkie and a homosexual. I asked when the case would go to court so I could claim my lost cash on the goods and the Sergent seemed unwilling to help with that, I left there eventually with an odd sense and confused the the information I was given.

A few days later I had a call from Steven who sounded frantic and he began hounding me to get him a large amount of meth, more so then usual, I no longer wanted anything to do with him and became suspicious he was asking me for drugs as if nothing had happened. I told him I was upset he lied to me selling me stolen goods and that he had made me lose a significant amount of cash and I no longer wanted anything to do with him.

That weekend I attended a rave as usual, and early into the night a mutual friend of Steven's came up to me asking to speak to me in private in my car. I was told to drive somewhere safe so we could talk, he then warned me that Steven had made a deal with the St. Kilda Police station and that the charges for his theft would be dropped if he co-operated with the St. Kilda Undercover Unit as an Informant to catch out some of the big fish at raves and that Steven had in fact named me as a big supplier to the Undercover Police. I was horrified and and asked why he was telling me this, apparently Steven had stolen the goods from someone this guy felt fondly about and then proceeded to talk of the arrangement while of his head in regards to the deal he struck with the police.

That night I discarded my drugs and decided I would sus things out very discreetly, it wasn't long before Steven found me and began to hassle me for drugs, I told him I had none and to leave me alone and walked off however I was no perusing Steven from a distance to see how he was operating, it become very obvious that Steven had an ear piece and wired with a transmitter as he had one finger in his ear whilst talking, throughout the night I saw him hanging out with an older crew and visiting cars that were very typical of undercover police cars used in those days. I found that some of the undercover police he was working with were perusing me throughout the night, again in the same manner with one finger in their ears, pretending to scratch to seem discreet and bending their heads to their chest to talk.

Little did they know that the hunted had now become the hunter and I was walking to quiet areas like the toilets whilst monitoring the police on my tail from the corner of my eyes. I decided to lay low for many weeks but despite this every party I went to they were there on my tail and even following me home after the party and whenever I left my house, of course I never gave sign that I was onto them...

In one of the party's the morning after I was chilling with my friends in the car park watching the car about 20 meters away that was watching me when suddenly some crazy party goer decided to burn some rubber in his vehicle doing burnouts and doughnuts at high speeds with people still walking around, of course just as I suspected the police lights came on from the undercover car that was watching me, which was the best confirmation I got yet. They obviously at that point could not risk being liable for any injuries and felt obliged to blow their cover to stop this drug fueled hoon.

This is where the corruption begin, in the weeks to follow I attended a big bush rave, Earthcore. Soon after setting up tent I noticed 4 cars pull up next to our tent about 10 metres away, and set up camp, I immediately recognized a few of them, I went into our tent and began to watch them from the small fly screened window of the tent, I then saw Steven in the last car, he looked like he was trying to hide from me and the undercover police let him out early before they even parked and Steven disappeared into the bushes, at that point I knew it was going to be one hell of a night.. This police crew was composed of about 7 young informants and 5 undercover police officers posing as ravers, again I recognized some of them from previously when they pursued me on foot and in cars. When they saw me get out of the tent they called me over and the first thing they did was to offer me a bong, I then decided to be sly and play along and accepted so they kept believing I was ignorant to their cause, they then began to ask me what drugs I was taking that night and if I could get them some, I told them I had just arrived there and not yet had the chance to ask around as yet. I watched them throughout the night and saw Steven visit their tent many times from the back entrance, the informants they had were all allowed to smoke bongs.

I then decided I would take it to the next level and approach two of the informants who were walking around the dance floor, I went up and made some small talk and decided I would bump into them whilst dancing so I could get a feel of the hidden transmitters but I would have never expected for what was to happen, I went slamming a bit harder then I anticipated into the informant knocking off his transmitter from his chest and a little black box with a cable fell to the floor, his other informant friend pounced on it grabbing it quickly whilst angrily saying "you idiot" and they stormed off.=D

Once they knew that I knew I began playing games with them at the party's to follow, by mocking the undercover and sticking my fingers into my ears, making them drive and walk around in circles following me and even approaching the undercover police which I had now come to recognize and asking them "do you even like this music" and getting them angry.

I could now act confidently because I was clean but eventually when I found out Steven's court case had been dropped for the third time and dismissed I went directly to the St. Kilda police Station and confronted the officers who had made my life hell at these a rave party's asking why they let him off. The sergeant responded "I would put away the lot of ya's if I could" 8o

A few months later I read in the newspapers, the St. Kilda police station was under investigation as a large amount of ecstasy had been discovered in the ceiling, obviously a stash that was used at these rave party's to lure potential clients and dealers, hence the corruption. it was never disclosed why it was there, but I know.

That year I decided to ring Steven one final time after the ordeal was over, and told him everything I knew and got a full confession confirming everything I had witnessed, in fact he told me things like the technology they used was very sophisticated, the undercover cars were equipped with audio enhancers that could listen to conversation in occurring in other cars at rave car parks by simply inverting the speakers inside the car to transmit whatever was being said.

Thank you for anyone who read this far, I am glad I finally got this off my chest.

Amazing read, and glad to hear you didn't get into trouble.

I'd hate to be dogged by a mate like that when you were doing him a favour by buying his dvd's.

Pretty fucked how they try to catch people out, reading this makes you feel more cautious.

I remember one time I was at a nightclub in the city, and these undercovers were checking out me and my mates, however we were all clean that night. So like you we just started pissing them off, pretending to do lines and stuff whenever they weren't looking. In the end they got frustrated and left, but not before shoving one of my mates, not too hard, but hard enough to let us know that we were definately right about our suspicions.

Thanks for sharing Unlucky.

bloody awesome read. thanks for sharing.

that must piss the living HELL outta them when ppl are onto them like that, good on you for giving them the runaround.

maybe i'll become an informant....i mean if they take you to earthcore and smoke u up the entire time thats pretty good hey?

thestudent14, nice one lol, doing fake lines never occured to me, that would have been fun =D

bud.lightyear, now that you mention it does seem like a sweet deal, those earthcore tickets ain't cheap.

I've noticed an undercover at a club before, was one of the straightest guys there, wasn't drinking, dancing or enjoying the time there etc.

Tho, what the fool did, was come up to me and ask if i had any pills.

I said no, but i could go get some, asked how many he wanted and walked away and didn't come back :D

Once one time, after I had been arrested, and done with all the court stuff, the arresting officer wanted to meet me for a cup of coffee and to discuss the industry that I am involved in..."just a general chat. nothing committmant-wise, its an interesting industry, you know?" and at the same time I could pick up my computer and the evidence, blah blah...

Obviously I reneged, and some else went and picked up my goodies.

Oh, and by the way, gidday Ranga, I am sure you will read this

Great story man, Im new to this forum and I have to say that i can really relate, ive been in similar situations

Im one to say that I don't hate the cops though, We shouldn't hate them, they are protecting us. Who we need to hate are the people who make the drug laws and such.

agreed, waffle kid, they are there to do a job, and its a pretty tough job that they do.

Drug compliance is only a small part of their day.

We have of course all been exposed to the seedier side of what can come unstuck , with the media and television producers making a fortune on the TV series, etc. While they may be based on trueish stories, they are, after all, written by people whose main aim is to sell the story.

The only people that will ever know th real facts are those that were there.

I for one, would not like to do half the stuff that cops do, although, i would like to think that i would be able to maintain some degree of humanity throughout the process.

Great read :)

Glad everything turned out well for you. Sounds pretty bad, but at least you can see the funny side of it now ;) This Steven guy sounds like a massive dog...

I don't hate cops in general, but some of them are corrupt power-tripping scum. I know it's an important job but it often attracts the wrong type of people.

Over where I live there are 4 fresh cops, all driving the new dodge chargers. They think that they are so bad ass. Honestly, it almost seems as if its us, as in young adults (mind the fact I dont know how old you guys are) that are corrupting what we call having fun. The older cops will usualy be a bit nicer and understanding. But thats just what I have experienced

This is a little off topic, but I fucking hate coppers in general and I think with good reason. In my opinion they are fair scumbags, mainly because they would rather bust a bunch of people for minor offences than a few people for serious ones.

While it is definately true that the coppers don't make the laws they are just expected to enforce them, it is my belief they generally choose to enforce minor laws over major ones because basically it is easier for them to look better this way. It is a pretty selfish mentality IMO when someone knows that the guy 3Km's over the speed limit, who blows .06, who gets caught with a gram of weed or a few pills, etc. really isn't doing much harm to the community but are easier to catch and look better on paper than catching one or two rapists, murderers or kiddie touchers. You know booking someone is 5 minutes in the life of a pig, but it changes the person they are bookings life from then on out. They can be left with fines they struggle to pay, not be allowed to travel to places they always wanted to go, get turned down for their dream job, etc. A pig doesn't give the slightest shit about this person, of who they victimise many daily, what they give a fuck about is another notch in their belt. It is easier for a piggy to move up the ranks with 1000 minor offences on his belt than 5 meaningful ones, so that is how they operate.

It is not because I assume they support the laws the enforce, but because they do so mindlessly and focus on whats easier for them as opposed to what they percieve makes the biggest improvement on society. Obviously not all cops are like this, but it is my sincere belief that most are. Also, something about the job seems to attract adrenaline junkie fuckheads that are on a power trip and their attitude just plain sucks.

Wow, great read man! I'm glad you outsmarted them and didn't let them get you :P It's a brilliant story! I've never had any experience with undercover cops (that i know of), hope I never will.

Yes drunk driveing - such a victimless crime.

Police are like any institution, some good some bad.
(Drug mentor) we have laws for a reason, to keep order. Each individual can't be interperateing the law as they want, thats called chaos.

So let the cops enforce the law, and if you don't like it get into politics or vote against it. having a dig at the enforcers of the law isn't the answer. The laws themselves are different from those who enforce them.

do you not realise that there are specialised units to catch those rapists, murderers and kiddie touchers that you talk about?! it is not the every day street cops' job to find those people, it is a detectives job. it is the every day street cops job to patrol the streets, looking for all the minor offences that the detectives are not looking for! if they happen to come across a murderer/rapist/paedophile, then they will arrest them. but the every day street cops job is not to find those people, it is to enforce ALL laws, including the drug and alcohol laws!

i ask you drug mentor(and please, don't give me some stupid smart assed remark that seems to be the norm here on bluelight when someone actually says they respect police, please give me an honest answer)... in all honesty, if you or your partner was raped, if someone you know was murdered, if you were injured by a drunk driver or if your child was molested... who would you be calling, and who would you expect to help you?! that's right, the police! and if they found the person that did it(which they do actually do quite often... omg who would have thunk that the cops actually catch people for stuff other than drugs 8o ), what would your opinion of the police be then? would you still call them pigs? would you still claim they they are all assholes that are out to get you?!

i have had many run-ins with the police,... but because i actually respect them for the job that they do, and realise that they are actually pulling me up because i've broken the law(which people seem to forget, is what their job is), i have never had a bad experience. yeh sure, i have been busted with pot, i have been busted shoplifting, i have been busted going in excess of 35kph over the speed limit... but because i didn't think of them as "fukn piggers the scourge of the earth" and admitted i had done wrong by the law, they were actually really nice to me and let me off quite lightly considering what i was caught with. i didn't even lose any points for that 35kph over the limit traffic offense, and only copped a $50 fine!

if you believe the cops are all fukn pigs and are out to get you... then they will be fukn pigs and will be out to get you, and they will treat you accordingly. i know that if i was a cop and someone was making it quite obvious that they thought i was scum.... i would bust them for everything that i could!!!

and before anyone says anything... yes i too have lots of reasons to fear the police, and i do fear them. but i also respect them for what they do, and i treat them with respect and without contempt. i cannot expect them to be any softer on me than anyone else who has broken the law(no matter how much i don't agree with some of the laws they enforce)... be it someone jaywalking, public urination, drink driving, drug possession, rape or murder. in their eyes, every one of those things is an offense against the law, and they will enforce them to the fullest extent!!

plus, i'm sure it does not look good for bluelight when someone with the name drug mentor with "bluelight crew" written under their name publicly calls the cops pigs, scumbags, selfish and adrenaline junkie fuckheads! because we all know that the police and media monitor this site, and they sure as hell would monitor a thread entitled "Police Corruption at St Kilda Police Station, Narcotics unit"!! yeh man.... you're really helping to change the authorities view on people who take drugs 8) because all they have copped so far is the same shit that you just dished out. and why should they change their stance on drug takers, when the majority of them view the cops as scumbags, just because they don't want to get caught with drugs!! i bet if there was no drugs around(or if drugs were legal), then everyone on here would not have a problem with the police. it is only your fear of being caught that makes you view them as "adrenaline junkie fuckhead scumbag pigs"!!

Excellent read mate.

Thankyou for sharing, its definately making me think a bit more about things.

Ive had limited experience with law enforcement relating to chemical matters thankfully. But what I have seen is a blatant example of entrapment/corruption.

Ounce in an inner city nightclub rather in-famous for its party goer's and their supplies I was having a sit down with my group just soaking up the love.

A slightly older guy compared to the crowd approached us, he seemed pretty straight. T-shirt, jeans, normal sized pupils. Everything that doesnt indicate a happy raver.

My friend who was sitting next to me is from overseas and has little understanding of how things go down in australia. He's of middle eastern decent and was in a rather happy place to say the least. Anyway, said straight looking guy comes up to us, and trys to talk to my friend.

The guy holds out his open hand and asks my friend "Can you tell me what these are?".

Taking note of the rather large handfull of disco biccies this guys just produced my innocent minded friend replys "Sure, they're pills man! Great fun".

Having seen stranger things while fucked off my face I didnt get to sussed at the time, but decided to pay attention none the less, but then the dude asks my friend if he'd like to buy some at which point a light goes off in my head and everything clicks.

A two second decision to push my friend back into his seat and kick this idiot undercover firmly in the shins may have just saved my friend a very traumatic ordeal.

I dunno if he'd have the power to do anything about my swift kick to the shins, but he seemed to figure he wasnt welcome and left without another word.

We put the word around that the narks were in town and didnt see him for the rest of the night.

Same guy turned up at the same place two weeks later, probably trying to pull the same trick for all I know. But he was seen leaving dragging a poor confused teeny bopper wanna be raver by the neck out the door, so I guess whatever he was trying eventually worked.

How on earth would they be able to prosecute people arrested under such conditions? Clearly you'd think it would be an easily defendable case for anyone in the know, but if it was that easy why do they even bother?

I'm disgusted with the conduct of australian police when they're supposedly paid to protect us.

This occured not even two years ago, they're still playing the same games.
