I think both mushrooms and LSD can be in a chaotic and confusing jumble of views but also mentally clear and calm. Which side of it you notice in some moment depends on your personality and thus you approach your consciousness as well as experience the events and atmosphere around you. So set & setting.
Mushrooms seem to have a more irrational approach and play more on your feelings, LSD seems more rational and responds to your thoughts. But thoughts and feelings inextricably interact together and this is why it is really inseparable from each other.
From mushrooms to get more into a trance and ecstasy is so inviting to meditate, I can work with LSD at a party and I can with my state of being and communicating with the influence of LSD out by means of a concrete about it. The ego can be as devastated, but this is a phase of intellectual insight so you can still negotiate. With mushrooms I can not, passing the station directly and I will have to surrender so that a deeper level of experience the true nature of things and the symbolism is revealed. Not to say that LSD can not, meditation is also fantastic at higher doses and faster you pass the first stage and its more similar to mushrooms.
The chaos and confusion is only when internal conflicts are, if you sit on 1 line with the experience and there are all preconditions for it to leave the you can see that this can solve causing intense clarity and peace for replaces.
How you deal with this again depends on whether you apparently feel the first man or a thinker, I feel. Terms seem confusing because there are 2 camps, one sensor can come into conflict and intense thoughts to achieve a harmony, but a thinker can have same by intense feelings.
But I would not predict how someone will react to this. To be honest I have a big hate it when a report in the form of 2nd person is told: 'You' will feel such and so. Speak for yourself I then think, because you know nothing about it. And I also know nothing about it.
