Okay, I need to give a little background on this. I have never had problems sleeping but have been depressed for several years. I have started this year not sure when using codeine, which I extract via cwe from AC&C pills. I live in Canada so aspirin- codeine is readily available otc. i have also only this year been dealing with unrelenting insimnia. I have been on prozac for a couple months but my insomnia has been occuring for longer than my use of an ssri. My codeine use began at a small level when i began experimenting in the under 100 mg area. What is blurred to me is how my dosage naturally upped itself and the frequency with which I used codeine. All i know is that i buy codeine by the 200 bottle (each pill has a crap load o aspirin, 15 mg of cafffeine, and 8 mg of codeine). And my insomnia could possibly coincide with my beginning to use codeine recreationally. Where it gets tricky is that i also had roomate issues and a bunch of other crap I was going through, a stressfull beginning to a new semester, and the fact that the codeone i have been taking has increased dramatically to 400 mg (thats 50 pills), and a shit load of caffeine with all that codeine. Another cause could be that as my codeine dosage has increased so has te frequency, going from once a week (actually, it was probably never that seldom) to at least once per day. For a very long time i disregarded the notion that i could be addicted because it tastes so horrible and it has all that caffeine which seemed to keep me up all night when i was stupid enough to do it at night. So another possible cause of my insomnia could be withdrawl, which (insomnia) is a symptom. I know this is all very disorganized but tell me what you think. Dur to indomnia i have rotated on an off several meds includin lorazepam, clonazepam, and seroquel which i currently take (100mg at least per night). i also wonder if i should tell my doctor as i do not want to be labelled as a drug seeker and ruin my record so its hard to get prescribed stuff later on when i might actually need it, and nor can I see myself actually quitting with the codeine. Is it possible if i told my doctor he could prescribe me something without the caffiene in the interest of harm reduction? Please let me know what all of you think about this situation: i need as much input and support as i can get. Thanks!
