Close calls you've had

t
Now I'll gloss over this (as i've said it before) but the treatment from the triage nurse is woeful, you could tell she hated junkie scum and was happy to let me die. Me, I'd call it malpractice. They refuse to admit me to ER despite the fact I can no longer walk, see properly, i'm blinded by pain. I’m starting to get scared, its getting worse as every minute goes by. I’m on a seat, sweating profusely, my friend has to hold me up as I can longer hold myself. I’m freezing cold, shivering. my head is killing me.

That's disgusting...I'm hoping your experience happened a long time ago chugs but I wouldn't be surprised if it was in recent years.

My stories don't really come close to the severity of lots of these. I feel bad for some of you guys for having to go through these kinds of things...I wonder how many could be avoided if drugs wern't illegal, or we didn't have to deal with purity and contamination issues. Lots of it is our own stupidity also, I can relate to that part but at least most of us learn.

(postcount 666! the mark of the beast :( )

In the highlands of Guatemala there is a Mayan village called San Pedro La Laguna on the shore of Lake Atitlan, which for better or worse has turned into a party destination where everything is available. There are fullmoon raves on the shores of the lake and numerous bars and nightclubs spread along the waters edge. Usually there is no problem with police, but every now and again they raid the town to extort money from the patrons at the bars that haven't paid them off in advance.

Dude, you should be an ambassador (right word?) for this place. You make it sound fucking wonderful! I want to go!

A passing nurse notices that i’m not alright and finds a bed for me. I’m wheeled into intensive care. Soon after that I start to vomit. They put me on a drip and i’m not sure what else. I end up passing in and out, waking to pain, vomiting, and embarrassingly enough, diarrhea. No one helps despite calling them. My friend holds/helps me walk to the the toilet.

Overdoses are one of the most easily treatable conditions. Fucking triage nurse, I'd lodge a complaint against her, if I were you IMO.

Seriously, all hospitals regard overdoses as the most imminent/promptly treated medical conditions, above all other ones except physical trauma that would result in someone dying.

Almost smashed my friends car door up on a roadwork sign getting a little too silly on MDMA.
Also somehow pissed some guy off enough to egg our car, and I thought I was just being friendly.

^told you cocaine was nasty shit^ ;)

You were definately right. although I went in with warnings such as yours and also my general knowledge of the drug, i guess I needed to experience its bad side personally.

on a side note, i never made it to Guatamala. I would of loved to of gone, but I only had one month in central america and got as far north as Nicaragua (an amazing country and I spent two and half weeks there). Oh well, I guess I will have to do Central America properly on another trip.

I was fortunate in that I never ran into any problems with the law whilst in Latin America. I found that for the most part, the cops seemed pretty apathetic towards drug use by foreigners (and in some cities seemed to profit significantly from it). Alot of people in Cartegena, Colombia got busted buying coke in the Getsemani suburub. No one saw the inside of a cell, but were marched off to the ATM to pay a bribe of between $200 and $800. I also saw the police rob some of the street dealers of their money and their coke.

I did have one close call. I was walking back from a party in Taganga at around 4am to our hostal with a group of people. I was within 10 meters of the hostal, when the police pulled up on a motorbike and ordered everyone to stop. I pretended not to hear them and walked briskly into the hostal. fortunately, the owner sells coke out of there and has a standing 'arrangement' with the police not bother his guests. was lucky as I had half a gram of coke, and would of no doubt had to pay a couple of hundred dollars to not get locked up

After a night of an 8th of the best mushies I've had, at about 6am I'm coming down so request to buy another 2g... Then at 7 I remember having to see my probation officer at 10am. I go to see her (still tripping and reaking of dro) and there's a different lady at her desk. With a urine drug test cup on the desk. Neither of which have I seen in her office in the many months before this occasion. She says my PO is sick and tells me to come in on the XXth.
I was extremely relieved as I walked out.

I've had to give my uncle, aunt, and best friend (different occasions) all mouth to mouth (with no training or experience) to get them breathing after seeing them with blue lips after a strong shot of heroin. All were extremely scary for me after losing another uncle who was very close to me.

Along with the many bags of weed, pills, and cocaine I've had to swallow when being pulled over. Always fearing of not getting it down and being arrested.

Closest call I've had was when I was living in the Valley, I had dropped a couple of tabs of 'cid and was about to head out to an Infected Mushroom concert when I got a call from a friend of mine asking for pills. So I grabbed a few of them, wrapped them up and hid them in my normal spot.

As soon as I walked out of my door (I was tripping by this point) I got stopped by 2 cops doing random searches. One of them patted me down while the other was going through the contents of my pockets. I was freaking out and thought I was fucked for sure. 15 mins later, after talking to me and asking where I was going and why I 'seemed so drunk and was wandering the streets' they let me go.

500m down the road I got stopped by 2 more cops doing the same thing. I simply said to them that I'd just been searched by 2 other cops up the road and they let me pass with no incident. It was the luckiest day of my life. If they'd found anything on me and decided they wanted to search my houseI would have been done big time.

^ the security of our stash at home is something we all get a bit complacent about until we get a fright. I bet if most of us at home took a look around right now we'd see all sorts of incriminating shit sitting out in plain sight. It's a gift for the cops if they arrive with a warrant and really makes all drug users look stupid by extension. On that note, I was ratted out by a redneck relative and had a carload of defectives lob. They went straight to my 2 espaliered bush pigs but never set foot inside the house. Friendly as you like, they even let me drive in to the copshop

On that note, I was ratted out once by a redneck relative and had a carload of defectives lob. They went straight to my 2 espaliered bush pigs but for reasons i wasnt about to challenge they never set foot inside the house. There was enough pot and parerphenalia laying around to put me away, yet even as I write this I know I'm back to my slack old ways. Even without a dog sniffing around any uniformed numpty opening a few drawers or cupboards would find enough to haul me away. Time to tighten things up... again:)

I had another stroke of luck years ago, kind of, when I got pulled for speeding one night and failed a RBT, just. It was night on a country highway - Jeff Beck 'Wired' was pumping on the tapedeck and my mate and I were ripped on a spliff from a dynamite oz tucked in the console underneath some other tapes. We had to leave my car there and accompany the cop an hour back to the station for processing, but I wasn't to worry because another constable would drive it back for me later that night. Next morning I fronted up with my mate to get my keys, fully expecting to be busted but it never happened. We jumped in and the first thing I noticed was that Jeff Beck was ejected and Roy Buchanan was playing! WTF? Down the road I lifted the console and saw the tapes had been moved. Jeff Beck was on the bottom over my ex-fat oz which had been reduced to a single bud! Faaaarrrk! It was certainly a close call but one I paid for, twice.

^haha. thats pretty funny that the cops stole all but a bud of your stash. why not take the whole thing? he probably thought he was doing you a favour.

Re-distributed: so the police can search you in The Valley randomly?

^^ Haaahaha! Fuck, that is pretty funny they stole your bud. Also very lucky you didn't get done for having it though.

Something similar happened to a mate of mine. He was baked driving home one night and got pulled over. He had about 7 grams of bud on him, a yoda bong and a couple of pills which he downed as he was pulling over. The cop came up to his window and could tell straight away he was ripped. The cop then asked for whatever he had and said he'd search his car if he didn't hand anything over. So, he handed over the weed and bong. The cop took them both and said wait here.

About 10 minutes passed and the cop came back. Gave him the bong and the bag and said throw it away when you get home and you'll be hearing from us in the next few days. After my mate got home, he'd opened the bag up and said there was just over 1 gram left in there at most! He waited a couple of weeks and never heard from them..

I think the bog-standard cop of old was a different beasty to the young thrusters pulling on the uniform these days. They were more inclined to clip your ear than book you for minor mischief and I heard plenty of stories about them pocketing your stash unless it was packaged for sale or more than a bit of green. There weren't drug tests for us or for them back then, either.

psytaco - Not sure if it was legal to, but I was tripping and not about to cause trouble because we were standing outside of my house.

I know in VIC they're now allowed to randomly search you for weapons. Anything else they may find is a bonus to them. Assholes.

I've wondered this with Victoria's laws, do they expect you to be hiding weapons up your arse, ie. is a strip search without any reason other than a hunch legal, or is a search of your bags and a patdown adequate?

The fact that I have to ask this question saddens me.

Patdown only... if they have reason to suspect you may be holding *cough*elsewhere*cough* (ie. if they have sniffers with them) they can haul your ass down to the local station.

Otherwise there is no way they could suspect it and strip search you on a whim.

As for bags, they ARE NOT allowed to go through them. They can only ask you to empty the contents. Unless you're an ass and they will take you to the station and go through everything with a fine toothed comb.

If they have reasonable ground they will search you. They usually will ask you if they may look through your bag or belonging. If you refuse they will either a) call a sniffer dog a do it that way or b) refusal will give them enough reasonable ground as they may believe you are hiding something. Either way you will get searched. They have the right to search you. Like you said they can simply take you back to the station and completely strip search you too.

Mate you're talking out your arse. Refusal to be searched is NOT and never has been reasonable grounds for a search. Maybe in North Korea, but not here. Though North Korea probably doesn't even need a reason to search you in the first place.

Anyway back to the close calls. When I was about 18 I drank way too much wild turkey and jim beam. I don't remember anything of the night itself - one minute I'm walking around feeling a bit tipsy and the next thing I know I'm waking up fully clothed on my bed at 11.30am, still feeling pretty drunk.

So I decided to drive over to my girlfriends house (she lived about 5 minutes away) and hang out with her for a bit. This is the next morning, by the way. I used to drink drive all the time so I didn't really think much of it. Anyway I drive out and decide on a whim to take the back streets, because I didn't want to get RBT'd.

Everything was going fine until I got to the junction between one of the back streets and a fairly main road. I pulled up to the giveway sign, glanced to the left, glanced to the right and went. Next thing I know I'm hearing the sickening sound of screeching tires. I slammed on my breaks just in time to see a car to my right JUST avoid smashing straight into my door. I was driving a tiny little hatchback at the time, so that probably would've been the end of me if we'd hit (the speed limit on the road I was crossing was 70). The other car had to cross onto the wrong side of the medium strip in order to avoid me, and I just remember thinking FUCK!

I got out of there pretty quick feeling like a fucking idiot. If I hadn't been killed by the other car then my insurance would've been voided due to me being drunk, I would've lost my licence and I would've been given a huge fine. Never drove drunk again after that.

"There must be a factual basis for the suspicion. Police guidelines direct police to consider things like the time and location, your behaviour and “antecedents” (whether you have a criminal record or other information known to police"

They could claim your in a drug hotspot and lets face it now days everywhere is a hotspot pretty much.

Police use sniffer dogs in order to form the basis of a legal police search. This part of the law doesn’t give police the power to detain so they cannot force a person to stay in an area while the dog sniffs that area. However, if a person does leave the area police can use that as a basis for “reasonable grounds to suspect”.

If a dog gives an indication of finding drugs, this gives the police reasonable grounds to suspect you have drugs, and they will be entitled to search you and detain you.

So basically if u refuse the search they will call a dog if its available. Its all worked out mate, its pretty unfair but they always have to come out winning in the end.
